help - insurance - written off

  mini cooper (RIP 172)
my car had been written off and before i get a figure of how much the car is worth i need to send my V5 to the insurance ppl

is this normal?

i was thinking if i give them the V5 then whats to stop them saying the car is only worth £100? and nothing i can do about it!

if i get a figure thats ok then i send the V5?

or am i just been silly:eek:

no you have to send your docs to the insurance before they will even get a engineer to inspect and value your car,

if you dont like the offer they give you you then have to send in what they call "Adverts"
basicly copies of things like car adverts of same spec, milage car etc to prove its worth more but they should send you a interim payment in the mean time once they have recieved your documents etc then if you can prove it is worth more than they offered they will send you the balance.

i deal with insurance people day in day out lol

you have to send them the V5 as theyr basically buying the car off you when the write it off. so theyl offer you settlement once the V5 has been received.
i think its more to do with proving its your car and not a copy to try and defraud them
