HELP: Missfire on a 182 - PO203 & PO303

Hi,

My 182 has developed a missfire. It started off one morning after leaving it stood for a few days. It was quite obviously only running on 3 cylinders and the Engine Management light was flashing for a while before going solid. Later that day I drove it home from work and gave it some abuse and it fixed itself. It then ran fine for a couple of weeks using it every day, until I went on holiday.

On my return, exactly the same fault. Plugged it into a scan gauge and it has come up with codes P0203 and P0303 which is apparently missfire on cylinder 3 and an injector fault on cylinder 3.

I have changed the coilpack to no avail. I have checked and cleaned the plugs. All seemed ok. So an injector sounds like a likely culprit.

Is this a known or common fault?
Has anyone else had an issue like this?
What's the best/cheapest way to go about fixing it? Second hand injector from clio spares?

Thanks

sounds like either a blocked injector, or a general problem with the injector itself or wiring to it. Have you tired swapping over the injector from one of the working cylinders, to rule out wiring fault? It wouldn't be hard to get hold of a spare set. Easy to change too.

It tells you you have a faulty injector

So replace that injector

I have the same problem, I have booked it in for diagnostics today as I give in trying to manually diagnose it lol

No I havn't tried that yet. I was going to try and get it cleaned but it's probably easier to replace it than get it in an ultrasound bath. You don't have any knocking about do you? Where abouts in Chorley are you from mate? Havn't seen your car about. I work in the town centre

No spares mate, but I could get hold of one if need be. Cars been out of action for nearly a year, but should be back up and running soon ;) I'm near asda in Clayton

Hmm, not sure where that is. I work right by the magistrates Courts in the town centre.

Where and how much for an injector mate? Would it be a new one?

You wouldn't know anywher locally I could take my car to have a snapped sump plug extracted would you? Ie, a nut welded on and unscrewed?

Only been working here a few months and don't know many places around here yet!

Try unplugging the injectors one by one. If it's an injector, 3 will make it run worse when unplugged but the forth will run the same. Pretty sure that's what mine is

I know chorley pretty well yeah. You're a stones throw from the White Heart there ;). Do you live near chorley? I can plug it in my kit for you and it will tell you where the problem is. Not sure how much the injectors would be mate, but it would be a second hand one I could get hold of. I know a guy :). RE: sump plug, how have you managed that :S. Any garage would be able to sort that for you though.

The mis-fire is on no. 3 so would it be worth switching injectors 2 and 3 round and seeing if the mis-fire moves to cylinder 2?

I have just developed the same fault on my way home from work today :( car was driving fine at 60 then gently tried to accelerate to find it holding back, so floored it and it was missing...and eng. management light started flashing. Not been able to source a diagnostic tooll to check my prob yet tho :(

injectors seem common on these, i just connect a multimeter on ohms scale to the injector and check the reading. i think on a 1k ohm scale it should be 16ohms i think but compare the reading with the other 3. if its faulty it will be a totally differnt reading e.g 0 ohms. hope that helps.
