help needed - Brakes Stuck on

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
hi, last night i changed my front brake pads, i went out for a test drive a bit later and all seemed to be well. i stopped and put my handbrake on for a sec as i took the handbrake of and tried to pull away again the car wouldnt move. it seems the back wheels have locked on. when i release the handbrake the warning light on the dash goes off but the wheels are still locked.recovery guy said he thinks its a calliper siezed and there has been a grinding noise coming from the back wheels for a few days but it just seems coincidence theyve seised after fitting new pads?

i used to have to pull the handbrake up realy far before it was on firm now it will only move up a few clicks after the wheels locked on. any ideas? common problems etc etc?

cheers, russ

Just deleted what i said , thought you had changed the rear pads , now i've just read it again .

Caliper on the back of a 1.2 ? Don't you have brake drums ??

Are the wheels locked on both sides ?? Try jacking it up and see if they are both locked .

good thinkin batman...just been and checked and its the driversside wheel only thats locking, passenger side is moving freely, im pretty sure thats the one which has been grinding 2....thought its was the front pads grinding as they were low but it carried on grinding after i changed them

new rear drum then?

good news problem solved. turned out the brake pad had come of the shoe which is what had caused the drum to seize. but ive now got new front pads, and new rear shoes for the grand total of £82 inc buying tools for the job. a bargain me thinks lol

i paid £22 for the rear shoes + £5 for a retaining kit, £14 for the pads, plus about £40 on tools (i had jack s**t in the way of tools) but its still cheaper than taking it a garage so im relieved.

My rear drums were making a grinding noise if I haven't used the brakes in a short time during the journey and done it when I first start out until I do some hard braking then the noise stopped for a little while.

Just like metal to metal in the way of worn pads.

I solved mine (by mistake) by trying to pull away with the hand brake on (twice), Never made a sound since.
