*Help Needed* : I needed to start my own forum...

  Clio 197
I need to get a forum up and running... it's for a building management company (I'm a shareholder).

I'm the youngest member... and probably the only one computer-literate enough to do it. :S :S

So, where on earth do I start?

If anyone can offer any help, I'd be eternally grateful... just don't ask me for dodgy favours ;)

Ta,
Oms x

PS Excuse the title error: "Needed" is past tense.... Actually, I mean present tense: "Need".

Try a very popular board from here LINK

Its in the downloads section and to get it working you will need a host that can provide you with an SQL database and PHP capabilities.

Alot of web hosting companies now use a nice bit of software called Fantastico, it installs various web scripts such as forums/discussion boards, like phpbb (as mentioned above) and does all the 'dirty' work for you.

Does this company have its own website, or will you be doing it all from scratch?

Totally from scratch - I'm in charge of the project.... only I don't quite know how I'm going to do it!

Can I ask why a Building Management Company wants a Forum?

^^

Shareholders all over the country, and we only meet once a year - not often enough.

Conversations on the phone aren't documented - too difficult to implement.

On a forum, it can be open for all to see - much easier to manage.

Thanks for your help Mams, I'll have a look.

Sounds fair enough, Does it have to be private / public ?

not too difficult, give me a shout if you want a hand, don't have a problem to sort it out for you, could probably even host it for you if you wanted, depending if you've got a domain name or not yet?
