help needed with ice

First post on cliosport.net, here goes...

I have just got my first car a 1.2 16v dynamique and the speakers are allright but not up to much.
Ive had some ideas of what to do but im not 100% sure im thinking of buying a new headunit and front components and amping them up, then i think maybe i dont need a new headunit just front components and a amp.
Would i be able to use my standard headunit with a amp?
If i did get another headunit would i still be able to use joystick thingy?

What front components would you recomend i only really listen to rap/ hip hop and im not the kind of tit who drives around with it on as high as it will go, infact id say my standard stuff was easy loud enough just not amazing quility id like abit more bass.
Im not sure what ill have to spend on the speakers but i was thinking of the kicker components witch are £370. do i really need to spend so much on components tho? as im a compleate beginner at car stuff im not sure on anything at the moment and im going on the saying you get what you pay for.

Another thing i was thinking about is the sizes im not sure on the old ones size and id guess to get anydecent sounds the new ones will need to be bigger? and with them being bigger there not going to fit into them tiny door pockets so would i need some door builds to acomodate the new speakers? Does anyone have pictures of there clio door builds or non standard components as id like an idea of what to expect.

Sorry to drag on and ask so many questions its just im not sure on anything at the moment.

no the current head unit hasnt got rca conections, so u carnt plug a amp directly upto it , unless u buy a box that changes the speakers outs to rcas, + ppl say the standard headunit aint too good

ye u can use the joystick with aftermarket headunit, with some head units u loose the dash display ,

if yer buying new components go for some with crossovers

the current speakers are 13cm

ye u can build door pods to fit bigger speakers , but thats a hella lot of work. personally i wouldnt bother , unless yer good at stuff like that

This is the alpine headunit i was looking at getting whats your thoughts on this?

Them rainbow speakers look nice but would they be suited the the type of music i listen to? and is it worth me spending say £380 instead of the £160 for the better speakers.

With a aftermarket headunit does it stick out on the dash or would it sit flush?

  Clio 172mk2
think all aftermarket headunits will stick out a bit, best thing to do goto a decent car audio place look at various headunits see which suits u better, that alpine headunit was the one i was going to get but decided on a pioneer bluetooth one so i can use me fone through the head unit.

as for what u want to spend on speakers , depends how load yer planning on having it , and to how much distortion u willing to have.

when i get round to doing mine i`ll prolly spend 100 on front comps, 250 for a 4 chanel amp , and 100 on a sub ,

but with ice u can go on and on , in end set a price what yer willing to spend and budget around that

  Polo + Micra
yeah i think most decent speakers can handle most types of music

this is how my 9815 is in the car don't stick out that much

if you give a budget people will be able to pick out the goods

try emailing or foning them at caraudiodirect tell em , amount yer wanting to spend, obv pic a few head units you like , and ask them , they might put u a kit together with a little discount

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Ok say i set a limit of 500 for speakers and a amp as i reckon that alpine headunit is the one i want.

What type of amp would i need and any sugestions on what speaker would do for me, also cables i know ill more than likely need better ones but how much would they be.

I wasnt originally looking at buying a sub as im not to keen on how they sound id rather not have to buy one thats why i was looking at buying some decent speakers so i wouldnt need one.

are subs really needed to make a nice sounding system?

  Clio 172mk2
depends , subs give a nice deep bass line , think of it as the more types of speakers , subs tweaters mid range.

the more clarity the music will have, as yer not have 1 speaker do 2 jobs

just my thoughts n e ways

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
supose your right maybe a sub is worth looking at, one thing i really dont want is it to be pure boom boom boom i want a nice clear sound, i can never see myself driving around with it on its highest, the highest ive ever had my current speakers is 20 and i found that plenty most of the time its on 12.

if u goto a halfords ripspeed , or some where with decent set ups , u can pic the headunit , then pic form a few speakers , then add the amp n sub on, check it out n see if its to yer taste, then goto car audio n buy as halford rip u off big time

erm, sorry to burst the bubble, but Halford Ripspeed dont actually sell decent set ups its all xpold and inifinity.

Mate, to get a good idea of decent quality speakers - look up a car audio place near you that NOT halfords. and see what they have. If your budget is indeed 500, try checking out ebay for some set ups. I'd suggest trying to get your hands on a JL audio subs - cant really go too wrong with them. Then a 2 or four channel amp so you can just use one for both your speakers and your sub. consider perhaps the entry level phoenix golds (octane r series) they have been coming down in price and I quite like their results, sq-wise.
Spare about £75 for wiring and a sub box, which leaves you with a little room for the components.
DONT fall for the infinity or xplod trap, I'd maybe take a look at the Genesis profile 5.25" components ( if you want them in the stock locations). Please invest in good components. Even though my speakers are currently in the sotck locations, I was running JLAudio XR comps - and the difference in quality between those and my old Alpines was amazing. You CAN tell the difference!

clairesclio : i didnt mean to get the set up from there i meant for him to see whether or not he like it with a sub or not

also i did say

"if u goto a halfords ripspeed , or some where with decent set ups"

****or some where with decent setups***

never said halfords have good setups

Perhaps with improved punctuation and spelling I'd be able to read your posts better :)

on the same note - a subwoofer generally is worth it. You dont need to get anything at 1000rms wattage or something stupid. I currently have a 600w rms diamond audio m5 sub, and its more than good enough for me. Dont listen to anyone of the Maxpower persuation! They never quote rms ratings anyway ;)

Most of my audio is second hand kit, and I'm very happy with that. for example, I have a set of £700 components which I bought for £200 and had never been used by the previous owner. Its worth looking into second hand - for eamxple on the talkaudio.co.uk exchange section

You still suggest they stock kit which would be worth its money. I'm sorry but thats just wrong, from the point of view of someone who has followed car audio for years. Caraudiodirect dont even stock most of halfords stuff because it just isnt good enough

  Clio 172mk2
nah id never suggest buying off halfords , its just a handy place to go as theres alot of em , n ppl tend to know there locations

"then goto car audio n buy as halford rip u off big time"

, yes my punctuation and spelling is crap, i know that , but nowt i can do about that now im well past going back to school,

and i allways recomend car audio direct as thats the only place i use ,

no, you dont understand. You suggested looking perhaps at halfords and then buying a selection online. So, technically, yes, you are suggesting buying the things halfords stock

Never too late to learn how to write properly

Why do people have to turn genuine posts into arguments.

You definately need an new headunit, front components and an amp, but I would suggest you get a sub too, I think systems sound 'empty' without a sub.

My current setup is DLS MS6 components (they are 6.5", its a tight fit in the standard positions but its easily sorted with some mdf spacers), a Phoenx Gold Xenon X12D4 sub, and Alpine MRD-M300 and MRV-T320 amps to power them. That's about £1k worth of kit, but I used ebay for everything and got it all (brand new) for about £400 so its worth shopping around (but watch out for import taxes).

yep looks good, take it u like yer alpine gear,

just out of curiousity , what are u doing with the rear speakers

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Yeah i was just browsing the site and did a set up with alpine gear as a mate said try and keep with the same brands as there made to go together dunno if thats true or not.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
How come you cant edit your posts on this forum?

Rear speakers err not sure theyd be allright left where they are wouldnt they?

  Nike Lunar Elite's
If you buy a single brand for all the audio the rms figures of amps, subs, and speakers will be well matched, but that doesn't mean that another manufacturer won't make any suitable amps.

Don't bother with rear speakers, take the oe ones out, chuck them in the bin, and leave the rears empty.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Ok ta, it seems that people only really recomend front components and a sub so i think ill be doing that.

that link above doesnt work now so heres all the alpine stuff i was looking at, is there anything that could be improved like changing the componts to the cheaper rainbow's that ive read are pretty good?

Can't comment on much else but I've just recently installed a 9855R in my clio and I can say its worth every penny. More features and options than i'll ever know how to setup and the sound quality difference between the oem hu is amazing, you won't go far wrong with one.
Also you'll probably want:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pro...d=3474&cadid=73379a1fd8b816067ed0d9da36dc0811
and
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pro...d=3481&cadid=73379a1fd8b816067ed0d9da36dc0811

So you can keep your steering wheel controls/dash display. (assuming you've got them)

halfords do have some decent stuff, just 20x more expensive than online. i went up their to have a look at some of the hu's (never ever was going to buy one from there) and had a play with the alpines that have the glide touch and liked it so much went and bought an alpine 9855R of net. cant wait to get it!

Just go to a car audio shop and have a look and play with hu's until you find one you really want. cant just choose a hu (or anything else) from a 2d picture untill you have heard/seen it in the flesh!
