I have had my 172 cup for 3 days now and one of the faults with it is that there is a really loud squeking (spelling!!!!) noise coming from the drivers side at the bk, almsot like rubber rubbing together???? When ever i hit the slightest bump it sets it off, any one had the same prob or know what it could be? I have it booked in for the 28th so hopefully they will sort it out... But any help now will be much appreciated : )

Well done on getting the Cup mate,

I get the same thing in my 172, have had it for about 6 months now, but its steadily getting more annoying.

Same place as you, driver side at the rear over bumps. Sounds like ive got a bloody budgie on the back seat......

I thought it was the rear seat not locked in properly, but have ruled that out. Let me know if you track it down

I had the same kind of squeek in my 1.2 16v and im 99% sure that its the rear suspension springs. It happens a lot in the wet. Its really irritating.

Not that id normally have any objections to having a good looking bird on the back seat ;)

Rear shocks?

Parcel shelf?
Hi Mike,

Checked parcel shelf, still does it without that in, so probably is rear shocks.

Cant remember if its only done it since i put the Eibach springs on, pretty sure it was doing that before then though.

Ill have to be brave enough to let someone else drive it down a bumpy road, while i climb around in the back trying to locate it.

Due for my 24k service in a month or two I expect so might ask you to take a look when its in.
