HELP PLEASE!

  2003 172 Clio Black
I've just bought a 2003 172 from a renault dealer with just 20k on the clock on saturday, and it's started to make a high pitch shreeking noise when the revs get above 5000rpm, and seems to come more from the left side of the car...it's not too loud but is noticeable. the noise is rev related, not speed related and only comes on above 5000.

the dealer cant look at it untill the 19th, but has anyone else heard of this or had it happen to their cars???

any advice would be much appreciated!

Jamie

hmmm i hope not - sounds expensive. just spoke to a renault place by me, i have to drop by and go for a road test with them to try and find the problem.... this will be funny, as the problem is only above 5000 rpm, and we all know what happens when you do that in a 172! just have to hope its not an old guy with a dodgy heart ...

any more suggestions anyone??

5000rpm is where the VVT kicks in, could be to do with that?

Nope VT is active between 1.6 and 5.5k or so under set conditios the kick is just the cams being suddenly efficient.

The problem sounds like a faulty tensioner or the AUX belt needs changing.
