HELP Please :(

New problem developed today.... (and I don't know whether it's still safe to drive)

Driving along, when you put your foot down over say 60% the whole car shakes like a nutter? It still accelerates properly, just feels like something is grinding or something??

You can rev the car right to the top of the range, as long as you don't put your foot down all the way, and just let the car get there slowly(ish)

I have no idea what it could be, but I had my CV boot refilled and a new clip put on a month or so ago, this was the first thing I checked, it looked to have been leaking again, but I have no idea how much or for how long?

Could this grinding me the CV totally out of grease and siezing?

What happened last time when you got that CV boot fixed? Did they just re-clip it?

Yeah. Generally once a clip comes off, it will never stay on once re-fitted. New driveshaft time I reckon. Cliospares do them £40 delivered iirc.

Oh bummer :(

More money I don't have atm.

Is it gonna royally fubar anything driving it like this???

I may take it back to them and see what they say.

If I'd noticed it this morning I could have taken it in, s**t!

Yowza :( assuming it is my CV boot then, think I may have killed it :(

Tell me more Danny, what causes it etc?

Am I going to break it driving it?

Too low or too much negative camber worsens it but you should be ok if not going silly! Its probably just one of the bearings come off, I tracked mine like it and drove it for couple months too as I didn't know what teh f**k it was and nobody knew! I would get it checked ASAP though.

Easy job to swap driveshafts too, undo hub nut, jack up, wheel off, hub nut off, trackrod end dropped, pull driveshaft off differential spline, new one on etc....

Its a facking messy irritating job though isn't it?

I'll get it checked on day next week then.

My car is very low, and I have to drive down one very bumpy road every day on the way to work, I think it could have killed it :(

I'll take the wheel off and check it out myself tmrw with MikeB as I'm going around there anyways.

I'll just drive it like a fairy I guess.

Cheers for the super quick help though everyone :)

The only thing that it will feck up is the driveshaft and it needs a new one anyway so don't worry about it! Drive on driver!

Nope, only the NS driveshaft is becuase you have to drain the gearbox!

Yea mine died properly once when hitting a s**t road, happened twice to me now!

Pick up a second hand driveshaft for £30

Would it not be better to get a new one? As couldn't a second hand one just end up fubar'd pretty quick??

So I haven't gotta drain the GB oil to do the drivers side? I'm farily confident it's that side, but is there anyway really easy tell tale signs? Or will it just be cv grease everywhere when I take it off?

Daniel, so the only thing I can break further is the drive shaft? 100%? I couldn't end up costing myself even more?

Sorry for all the questions chaps, but seriously, cheers :)

Yea but you can have 5 fubard ones in the price of a brand new!

No drivers side you don't need to drain the oil, only if you playing with the passenger side of the gearbox.

Only that side can do it so its definitley that side, if the other side done it it would send the splines into your gearbox and would f**k it quickly lol! Won't be grease anywhere as the join to the diff is metal to metal.

If the drive shaft breaks another bearing off (1 of 3) you'll find it will probably work its way out!

Cheers for the advice, I'll get it looked at one day this week by the guys who did the cv boot, as I'm sure they'll take a look for nout.

Then I'll set about fixing it, second hand shaft time me thinks.

If I'm fitting a different shaft I may aswell fit new cv boots yes?

I could hug you sometimes Mike.

Only sometimes, mind. ;)

Cheers dude, looks like we'll be having both front wheels off, lol, we'll just jack it up from the middle.

We can do it, but to save gear oil and hassle i normally just slot the old joint into the shaft bit in the gearbox. will show you what i mean tommorow.

You'll have to show me, I'll need to source a second hand shaft before I do anything else I guess... but at least we can see if thats defo whats up with it.

Bummer as I wanted to go to thorpe park on thursday :(

YOU DONT NEED TO DRAIN THE OIL FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE DRIVESHAFT!

I'm 100% that is what the problem is, you only need to drain the box for the other side!

Yeah saw the car today, rob is just sourcing a new shaft. We were more worried about getting the brakes sorted after our nightmare this morning!

Oh Daniel son, that sticking caliper that, "might just need greasing" FLOL!

It was siezed solid, so much so that the "slider" or whatever, was jammed into the carrier, so stuck that the head of the nut snapped right off, had to blow torch that crap out of it and then wack it out with a big hammer!!

If the shaft is that easy then we'll do it, (won't we Mike ;) )

Anything tricky about it? Anything to look out for?

I'm very happy its easy, I'll get one now asap :D

Pics uploading from today now.
