Help required - Central locking not worki

Hi,

I have recently got hold of central locking motors and door looms for my Clio Mk1.

I have installed the two front motors and looms, but nothing works.

When I lock/unlock the drivers side, the passenger loom receives a voltage of around 5v for lock and -3 for unlock ( I think thats the right way round). But the motors dont do anything.

I have also swapped the 3 other motors in to test (boot and rear doors) and still nothing.

If I am getting a voltage, should the doors lock or is there something else wrong?

I dont have the rear door pillar looms, the boot loom and the sensor & sensor loom. Also the switch next to the gearstick is missing. Could any of these be causing the problems or have I managed to get hold of 5 duff motors?

Thank you,

Whered you pick up the feed for the motors? And where have you used for the ground mate? Sounds like it could be bad earth or something similar???? Im guessing that the motors will be polarised too so check that youve connected them up correctly (ie +ve to +ve, -ve to -ve etc etc...)

Check your earth points.

Thanks for your replies guys.

The motors are connected directly into the door looms using the two pin plug (passenger) and I think six pin plug on the drivers side, and I havent earthed them. I assumed that the leccy bit would all be done by the wiring looms.

Do I need to earth them as well?

thanks,

you dont earth the moters. they are able to lock/unlock by swapping the feed and earth around to give you two directions. they dont have a earth only wire.

I found out yesterday morning that I have a wiring problem. My battery was drained flat!

So I take it the windows and locks dont need an earth and that I have just got a bad connection somewhere that needs tracing and fixing.

Also, I got one of the locks to work by putting it accross the battery. So it seems they take 12v. Much more likely than the 5 and a wishy bit I was getting ;-)

Will get the tester out tonight and wire things back up one at a time until I see a drop in amps on the battery, then out with the soldering iron.

Thanks for your help, I will post back with any news of it working/me ripping the lot out and stamping on it.
