Help With Dash Boad Indicators Lights?!?

  2005 Clio 182 Cup
First post here and excuse me stupidity if this questions has been asked a million times, or if its so straight forward to figure out and its went right over my head..... but, I was just wondering what the green gear stick light on the dash baord is all about that lights up with all the other lights when you first tun the key? My car is a 2002 52 reg 172. Is it simply an indicator light incase you gear box decides to call it a day and pack in?

Sorry again if this is a silly question? Just I have every piece of paper, receipt and manual section, but nothing to explain what this light is all about?!?

Cheers, Dan

Its called a 'Shift light' it supposedly tells you when its time to change gear, a load of people contest it though

Its more of a "here comes the limiter change gear" light. My manuals says something like a shift warning light or something like that.

Either way I want one ! :dapprove:

Its a chnage up light its not a proepr one just tells you when the engine is 400rpm from the redline.

Its not overly useful.. just tells you when you're about to hit the limiter :p

Ah well that clear thats up! My mate has a 182 and told me about some crazy shift light thing, but I haven't seen him since I've bought mine. I'll keep an eye out for it, but even before I try and use it I can see people's point about it being hard to see or a waste of time!! I work in a performance motorbike shop, and most top sportsbikes now come with a shift light built onto the clocks, but its a very high visible LED flasher that is located right at the top usually and you can set it at whatever rev range you want it to go off at, or you can even change its brightness, if it just comes on and stays on till you change gear or flashes really fast, or turn it off completely. You'd think if they were going to put them onto a car they'd at least do a decent job of it!!

Well ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for being so helpfull with my first post on here!! Now I've embarassed myself asking a silly question as my first post... it can only get better ;)
