Help With Old PC XP Install

  Punto/Clio GTT
yo

my girlfriends pc was slow as s**t so ive just reinstalled a fresh copy of XP and reformatted. Works fine except 1 problem.

I cant use the ethernet port to go online and download drivers etc that i may need.

in Hardware Device Manager;

"- Other Devices (!)
- Ethernet Controller (!)
- Multimedia Controller (!)
- Video Controller" (!)

under those, i have yellow icon. How do i distinguish what drivers i actually need to get those to work? im guessing it will be in with motherboard drivers?

can you tell what motherboard you have without downloading software? like, using windows

The short answer is no, you need to look up the make / model of the computer and download the driver for the Ethernet Controller, then go from there.

In Device Manager, find item, right click and go to Properties...then click tab (Hardware ID or Details), copy that information (CTRL+C) and paste into Google

So if you get this as an example (its my network card) 'PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_76731462&REV_06'

the revise it to 'PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168' and google it.

You need something like Everest or Speccy (www.piriform.com) <- free

If its dell...go to the support and drivers section, enter service tag...or find make/model...and then select OS and the drivers are there.
