Help with Speakers Please!

  Renault meggy
Hello, I have just replaced my speakers with the ones I posted in another thread on this forum and they were working fine for about 10 minutes. After 10 mins they started to crackle and sound extremly poor. Halfords and Motorworld have told me that it may be the head unit not amped up?
Has anyone had this problem before or know if replacing the headunit will help?
Thanks

What HU and speakers have you got?

You may have cracked it in your own question lol

Upgrading the HU could solve your problem, as the std reno one is a bit poor :(
Might not be able to produce the same power that the speakers are able to - resulting in crackling etc

Not 100% on the exact spec of the std HU

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
Even with an uprated HU the crackling may still come through when on high volumes, however it will definately improve with a new HU.

you just wanna hope you aint killed your speakers by sending them a clipped signal from the hu

I hope not! :nono:
Going to halfords tomorrow to see how much it will cost to get a better HU and have it fitted.
My HU won't even work not because I took it out to see what the fittings looked like. Needs a 4 digit code now :S

Thanks for the help but I think I will leave it if I am getting a new HU anyway

Ok, so I went Halfords and they tested a new HU in my car and the speakers sounded a lot better. I am getting this HU from them next week.
I have a question that may sound very stupid. I have took all the speakers out and I am going to reinstall them when I get the HU. I was just wondering if each speaker connection has a + and a - because when I first installed them I just put them in any old way because I didn't see any + or - signs.
Thanks

The postivie is usually a large spade connection while negative is smaller. As for the wires, positive usually is plain and negative has a black stripe down the side,

Thanks for that. Will connecting + to a - make them not work correctly?

If your cutting the wires you need to ensure the end (say postive is connecting to a negative terminal).

However if your not cutting wires, just push the ends on, the negative onto the negative spade and the positive onto the postive end.

I have cut the wires :dapprove:. So now I won't be able to tell which is positive or negative? Will it matter?
Thanks

do any of your speaker wires have a black line down it?
you will know once you wire them both up as if you have done it wrong the bass will be cancelled out due to wrong wiring,if its wrong, change the speaker wires round from one speaker and it should be all good
