Help with stalk adaptor

Right, I've managed to get the head unit wired up so it plays music etc, but i cant get the stalk adaptor to work. According to the alpine instructions, i should connect the 8 pin part in between the head unit and the car, which i can do. What i cant do is find the yellow 6 pin plug in the car that i need to plug the other part of teh adpator into. Its meant to be square and yellow, but i can tsee it anywhere!!!

Anyone shed any light on this?

I found a lead thats got 6 pins but its wide and flat :-S
I think that if i open it up i can remove the wires and attach them to the adaptor, but im annoyed cos the adaptor says it fits my clio grr
