Help with top mounts

Hi, ive bought ast top mounts but dont think i have them in right. I have the top hat then the rubber bit and place below opening and put the top bit on from underneath the bonnet. My problem is it is not centre and there is alot of play. Do i need to keep anything on from old setup? I have kw coilovers if that helps.
