Help with warning lights on 182

not had to post in here for a VERY long time, so please excuse me if this has been asked before or done to death and don't forget i can be trigger happy with the ban button ;)

My 2 1/2 year old 182, has just started to light up the stop light and bottom middle warning light which to me looks like an oil can?

Only comes on for about 10 seconds then goes off, totally random for when it comes on. But it can do it several times a journey, was serviced about 3k ago.

I guessed it would be oil but my oil is ok and i can't lay my hands on my handbook at the moment so can anyone advise of what it could be please?

thanks in advance!

that mustg be a bad thing then with the Fook mi?

it seems to run ok, just a coincidence that its only started to happen since i started filling her with V-Power i guess as that wouldn't have anything to do with it.

I've just checked my manual and basically oil pressure warning is bad. the best scenario is check oil level (which you've done) and the worst scenario is "STOP: contact a Renault Dealer.

I'd get it booked in as a matter of urgency!

hmmm, will check the oil again, the dash computer lights also say it snot lacking oil, so if the oil is defo ok will have to send her to hospital i guess.

thanks for your help anyway roy.

"Oil Pressure Warning Light

It should go out as soon as the engine is started; if it lights up when you are driving, stop at once, switch off the ignition, check the oil level. If the level is normal, this indicates another fault. Contact a RENAULT dealer."

The oil LEVEL may be okay but that doesn't mean the oil pressure is ok does it? You could have low oil pressure because of a faulty pump? starving bearing shells and all sorts?? I wouldn't be driving it personally :S

Don't believe the Oil message, check your oil with the dipstick.

Does the lights come on, on tick over then go when the revs pick up???

I'd not drive it and Call Renault Assist if i were you. Get it trailered to the dealer, and either they or the AA should provide you with a courtesy car.

Just had a quick natter with Dave on MSN. The dealer apparantly advised him to top up the oil and run it for a few days to see if it gets better :clown: WTF!

Low oil pressure is about as bad as it gets. It could be causing immense damage and the dealer tells him to basically suck it and see for a few days. Amazing!

If you cant get it to a dealer then use your AA cover! They could advise you straight away and you havent got to drive anywhere!

yeah, have been speaking to mike@rentech and he thinks it is more likely to be the sensor so i am just hoping.

called the dealer again and they said they can book me in for the 29th September!

The Fecking 29th September, 2 bloody weeks, what the hell is that!

Then they suggested i bring it in on monday and if they get a free chance over the next two weeks they will look at it then, are they being serious!

With a lot of gentle persuasion I can take it into them monday morrning and they wil tell me whether its ok to drive (if its the sensor) or not.

I am fairly happy with that, won't drive it this weekend so will hopefully get it at least seen to on monday.

I much prefer my dealer in kidderminster, always see me straight away! If only I wasn't 100 miles away!

no can do, doesn't cover homestart, ah but then they think my home address is kidderminster and I am in Marlow, could maybe get away with that!

Will the AA be able to do anything though, its not as if they will have the renault diagnostics and its an intermittent fault, not constant.

Do you not have the Renault AA cover? That does cover homestart

not unless you pay the extra i don't think, the basic one was just for if you mechanically break down out on the open road, ie. didn't cover flat tyre, no petrol or homestart but you could upgrade to those for something like £50.

I also have AA with my bank account though, just don't think they will be able to do anything when they get here as it probably won't happen and i know from experience that if they can't recreate the fault they send you on your way, happened to me on the way to dover when i was going to germany, luckily the car broke down in the port and the aa came out again and i got a courtesy car which was much easier than it breaking down abroad but as they couldn't find a fault the first time i had to carry on.

i'll see what the garage say on monday, they haven't told me not to drive it, hell they told me to drive it around for a few days to see if it goes away so if anything i can blame them.

after a slightly longer trip to the supermarket today it only seems to happen in the first few minutes, so when the engine is cold, is this more of a prolem or less????

Its fine and doesn't appear when warm.

My car has had a major oil leak due and these lights came on. :(

I would take it seriously and get it checked properly as David said our car is in bits at renault at the moment after bleeding profusely. :dapprove:

sorry to hear about your cars guys.

A bit of an update, I have always had the feeling that this is something faulty somewhere but not serious, i.e. i didn't think it was a real problem with the oil.

Well I was right, I took it into my local dealer today (they saw the car at no notice which was very good!) as the lights had pretty much come on constantly recently, well they sorted it and it was simply a cable that had worn so nothing major at all.

I did get to drive my mums Puma today though which has a terrible driving poisition and seats but the engine sounds amazing when giving it some, better than the 182 for sure!
