Help!!!

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi Folks,

I'm needing a bit of help with regards to my 172.

My car started running on 3 cylinders so the leads were changed but that hasn't helped. I then got a new coil pack fitted last night and its running worse than ever and still on 3 cylinders.

Ive had it hooked up to a computer to see if any faults came up but nothing did.

I'm stuck and don't know what to do next, can anyone help?

Many Thanks
:S

I should have also said that when testing the leads on the coil pack there is still one that isn't sparking between the lead and the coil pack. This is what happened before I got new leads as well.

Are the wires that lead into the coil all seperate? So its individual wires for each coil? Or is it one complete unit?

No, its a waste spark system so cylinders 1-4 both spark at the same time as do 2-3. If you've deffo got a missfire on one specific cylinder that isn't coil related then swap the leads about to see if you can make the missfire move. If it moves it is a lead at fault. If it doesn't then its either the plug or you have another problem with that specific cylinder.

I will get this checked next. Thanks :)

Moved the leads about and still the same coil that isn't sparking. So guessing it could be something wrong with the cylinder?

Before you condem the cylinder or start pulling the top end to bits have you tried sticking a spare plug in the end of the lead to see if you get a spark (Don't forget, the base of the plug will need earthing to get a spark so make sure its touching something metal and hold it with some decent pliars... not your bare hands). Do you have a spark from this test? If not, I'll give you £100 for the car. If so we're not quite ready to start compression testing but you should do something suggested above already by Fred; check the plugs!

Whilst doing doing this pull the plug lead out of that cylinder and inspect the bore for signs of water or oil ingress (leaking cam covers or jet washing allows it in and this is a common cause of missfiring on one cylinder). If its dry pull the plug and post back with its condition/operation. If its wet dry it out and chances are you will have cured the annoying missfire.

Well the car seems to be running alot better now!

We stripped the injectors out, cleaned them and the put the new leads into the old coil pack! Seems to be driving really well now! I have power again!!!

Only thing i need now is a new pump for my washer as they ain't working now!!! One things after another!!

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it :D
