I've locked myself out of my pc.

what can I do?

would a fresh install be better though? I have all my personal stuff on my external HDD so I will only be losing programmes

Depends on the state of the current install and if you can be arsed to do it all again tbh. I'd just use the above (or something similar) in most cases.
