hesitation after 5k

not my car but a friends, once the car reves to 5200rpm it sort of misfires and hesitates. sort of splutters but does not do it under this. it drives perfect apart from this fault... any ideas?????:S

Lamba Sensor?

I was thinking that maybe the emissions going out at 5k+ is maybe choking the car as the sensor might be fubar'd?
