Hi new here. and got a problem with my gearbox.

  Mini 1.3i, Clio1.8 16v
Hello everyone, I just got myself a clio off of ebay, 1.8 16v, first day of being insured and I realise the guy who sold me it is a c**t, gearbox starts to whine, then I lose 3rd, then 1st and 2nd, having to drive home in 4th.

Just wondering what is the easiest way to take the gearboc out, I've heard of taking the lower sub-frame off and holding the engine in place, but I don't have a car lift so is it going to be an engine out job?

Thanks for any help.

epic first post mate.

Yeah a weekend will be fine if your fairly handy. You can get to know the car too :)

Ball joints off, disconnect rack and column, track rod ends out, dogbone off, gear linkage off, probably disconnet the PAS (alternatively leave the rack on the car if you can) 4 subframe bolts, remove the airbox for access, and remove the gearbox. don't think i've forgotten much.
Boxes are quite cheap too. Williams boxes are the same, just stronger and longer 5th gear which is nice but the box is more expensive (probably double)

Should have itall fitted this weekend hopefully, then I can start de-chavving it.
