HIDs & Sidelights

  SchwepTek™
I know alot of people on here run without sidelights and i am also considering getting aftermarket HIDs. Are either of these illegal and will they fail MOTs?

Cheers peeps!

Ok so i think they are both illegal but you can get away without sidelights. Still not sure on MOT tho.

Can anyone recommend HIDs or a good alternative?

I got my HIDs for my VX off ebay, paid 75 incl delivery. And took the sidelights out, and its just passed it MOT.

Having nice blue white lights next to yellow sidelights looks rank!

ETA - i liked them so much i'll be doing the same thing to the exige

I was just reading some old threads and apparently HIDs are legal if set up properly but HIDs in certain headlight clusters cannot be set up because of the lens. Just wondered if this was true about 1*2 clusters?

yea, the headlight clusters you have wont spred the light correctly.

they need to be optic lenses, like on the psh1 172 etc,

the VX has projector lenses, maybe thats why it passed? AFAIK the clio doesnt.

Also im sure there is some legality about having washer jets with HIDs

Ok cheers guys. I won't bother then. I was just seeing if i could get some brighter/whiter lights. Apparently standard bulb replacement doesn't really achieve much.

  FIAT PANDA 100HP!!!!
get some halfords bulbs, in the gold pack, cant think of the name, but they do improve the light!!

I fitted 6000k HIDs to my BMW which I had before my car now (172) and I fitted them into a standard lense and got ALOT of oncoming traffic flashing me because I was blinding them as the standard lense dont have a beam cut off.....

I then got a set of Projector headlights with the projector lense and put the HIDs into them and not a prob after that.....

The projector lense has the beam cut off to stop the light being thrown all over the place and straight into the eyes of oncoming traffic..........
