Got some amazing recommendations this year! Okay so first up we have...

  • Lowered suspension fitted
  • Non standard centre and rear exhaust boxes fitted

Stupid, but you could said fair enough to the above. Next up is...

  • Under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components

What is this!? I'm pretty sure it's meant to be there, I sure as hell didn't add anything myself. Perhaps the word he was looking for was 'protecting' not 'obscuring' :S this is the best one though...

  • Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay

 lol amazing... this is the standard engine cover that's being referred to btw. One I do genuinely have a question about though...

  • Rear exhaust box mount in poor condition

Must admit I'm not sure exactly what this is? Can anyone provide a photo? I've never fitted an exhaust or anything to do with one before. I do find this a bit weird as well, last year I had...

  • Imbalanced rear hand brake application

Which seems to have miraculously fixed itself since then! On a good note, I had heard of people having problems with remaps getting through but no problems there.

the engine covers thing is normal now, they have to put it on to cover themselves, if your engine blows up 2 days after being MOT'd due to an oil leak the "engine covers fitted" part covers them

you should've seen my V6 MOT "can't find engine" LOL

LOL- not sure i'd be taking my car there for an MOT again.....

the garage are carrying out the mot correctly, it basically means that they couldn't confirm there was no oil leaks due to the engine covers obscuring there view, it should only be an advisory.

i had a customer moan the other day because he had the 3 following advisories

sill covers fitted
engine cover present obscuring some components
undertray cover present obscuring some components

its normal, he was expecting no advisories and was upset because he had those 3

Yeah these were only advisories as you say, no problem with the garage at all, been using them for years... I'm laughing at the regulations not the garage.

There's been a couple of threads on here about MOT/remap issues. I might be remembering wrong though and it was a 'fail' the government wanted to bring in, perhaps it never made it through?

Fair enough. Just seems odd to me, had my car MOT'd the other month and none of the above got mentioned.

I'm sure there are plenty with 'can't find car' on their MOTs ;)

Doubt remaps are going to be testable, what are they going to do, read the ECU of every car they test?

Well at least I know to take my engine cover off first next year to make the MOT paper look a bit clearer!

I had none of these problems in my last mot (june) mainly because I took the car to a garage that has testers with common sense. The owner and a few testers are family friends and the car failed first time round and they were right to do so, emissions and leaky shock, but they figured out how to take 4 bolts out and remove the engine cover to have a proper look.

So what's the story with newer cars? Most have massive engine covers and some you can't even see the engine! Thinking about it, what if you own an audi a2? You're royally f**ked as you can't even lift the bonnet.

i think youl find they shouldn't have lifted that engine cover with their "common sense"

i get this a lot to, it's pathetic though, and yet my tester that I use passed a megane with excessive play in the track rod end, purely based on the fact that he thought it's not likely to fail soon, lol there was 1/2" of play in the wheel, but this is classed as acceptable!

Mot testers aren't supposed to remove covers afaik

Your right they cant - Technically if the cills have holes in them under the covers they cant fail it for corrosion if they have to remove said covers to see corrosion

Same loophole as the windscreen wipers not having to work if there is no windscreen

It's all pretty stupid but at the end of the day I'm just glad it's only cost me £13 for another 12 months piece of mind (nothing related to the above)

Another thing I was a bit worried about was my smaller number plates and that I took the headlight washers off... but no problems there :)

I only got one about the sils being covered. The guy said he had to put that down as they cant check them for rust etc die to the covers which they cant remove. So next year, i'm planning to put he hole car in a cover, instant pass :p
