Hit a speed bump!

  Clio 182FF
Greets!

I was trying to find a customers house and I didn't see a speed bump in the road. Hit it about 20mph and although nothing seems damaged and there's no scuff marks under the car it really did make a thud and it felt hard - probably due to the fact that the cup susspension is so hard.

Anything to check for, think I would have damaged anything?

Cheers as always...

Similar worry here. Every day I hit a lump on the motorway between M4/M25. It's like a really high sleeping policeman. Never really noticed it in my Golf but I sure do in the 172 with K-tec springs. I have to slow right down and be really wary of following cars. Still gives a real jolt and I feel like the tyres might burst!

I have reported it to Highways Agency and they say they are aware of it, but say it's the bridge joints 'settling down'?

Well as long as they pay for my repairs fair enough... but somehow I think I'm on a loser :dapprove:

Lol! I hit that on the way back from Powerstation when I had my AST's fitted. It actually winded me!

Yeah not funny is it! I replied to te Highway Agency's email to the effect that just HOW bad does it need to be before they do something?

No reply :dapprove:

The thud could just be your bump stops, that's what they're there for.

If you'd damaged your shocks you'd be able to tell, and as Cat said, if you'd done any damage to the undercarriage you'd soon see (i.e oil on your normal parking space etc).

I wouldn't worry about it personally, although it will have done your alignment no favours so perhaps get that checked if you haven't already, it's something you should do every year or so anyway if you drive on bad roads very often.

Bump stops?

I must google stuff about shocks and springs. When I hit this bump I feel the car makes no effort to smooth it out... like hitting a curb in my Golf. I'm sure it doesn't do the car any good, but then maybe that's just the cost of lowering?

Someone on here, based in Reading, was going back to the original springs because of the state of the roads around the M4 corridor :(
