me and a mate made my custom HKS pannel filter today the most free flowing filter ive ever seen!

£21 from your local HKS dealer (red, blue, yellow, black or green)

cut to the correct size

Mesh behind it

no pics of the custom modified airbox yet but its on top of it and it feels just as free flowing as it did without the filter in it! in total its cost me £21 for the filter and the rest of the modding was done by me and a mate

eh? Are you puttin the plastic bit back on?

i assume he would be, as he said 'custom modified airbox' which normally means hes drilled a load of holes in it, so it suffers from heat soak, but makes a dodgy noise.

now wheres my stella as copyright infringement on the avatar ;)

im sure k-tec do something for that engine! a polished induction pipe with adapter to fit over that box

drilled loads of holes in it, i dont think so...

standard airbox size has been kept as it best suits the engine, the hole that all the air is sucked through has been bored out to allow more air to be sucked in and faster, all the restrictive ribs have been cut out and smothed down to aid the airflow the 2nd chamber that is used to silence the airbox has been modified so it sounds a lot better.

lol thats what was on it before, heap of shite badly finished and the engine losses low down torque, in theory the relocated kit is a good idea but the inlet trace is too long so it loses torque.

Middo,
Just because you dont buy a part that cost the earth to increase the performance (And take the manufacturers word for the increase) doesnt mean you cant do it on a MUCH cheaper scale but get better results! (which has more to do with knowing what you are doing!!)

And as for that K-tec kit it was one of the worst manufactured parts i have came across! as for good flow it was nearly non existent who bilds an induction kit which sucks against a flat plate with a small hole in it for the air inlet??? should be made to maxuimise flow to gain better engine pickup times!! (not inpressed with k-tec parts so far! (just like there brake extender brakets (someone is hoping to end up in hospital with those eh!)

Anyway

I have tuned lots of cars and dont need to specialise in any specific manufacturers vehicles, i can tune most things! i have learned the principals behind increasing performance from engines!

I currently have an engine hand built by myself from scratch which was built of parts i sourced myself to get the setup i wanted! Its a Vauxhall Nova 1600 GTE engine (i know it aint Renault principal is the same) it has had a fully lightened and balanced bottom end inc flywheel (allows it to rev) also it has a cam and a reworked cylinder head with modified valves (by myself) which maximises flow! along with my custom built 4 branch manifold (from a 2.0lt 16v redtop engine) and best of all it hasnt got injection anymore as i opted for a set of Quad Carburetors from a Suzuki 1100 Bike which i rejetted to suit the engine (Again this allows the engine to rev quicker and talk about induction noise eh!) this engine std put out around 100bhp and with the mods i have done to it is somewhere in the region of 160 to 180bhp and that was done on a budget (cost around £ 250 and that was for lightening and balancing bottom end and gaskets most was labour put in by me!)

So I thought i would carry out some of these mods on a clio to gain some extra bhp and torque! (martins std clio should be getting a hefty wee boost soon as we get it setup a little better than the economical lean burner that renault first produced!

No bold font here??? same as yours "Scott-16v!" ??

think you'll find that companies like pipercross spend more time in their manufacturing of specific componants, than HKS do on manufacturing a generic car part. i've had a panel filter, and toyed with the idea of modifying its inlet, but theres little point - which is why i have personally opted for a viper with a custom stainless/samco cold air feed. ( mainly because i know what im talking about. )

feel free to see my rolling road printouts (however accurate or inaccurate they are) which show 85 bhp, (10 on standard) and more importantly a perfect torque curve.

so at the moment i'm quite happy spending 150 quid on something which i think as improved the drivability of the car, and the look.

but the viper is just a generic filter is it not? (all vipers are the same just different brackets etc for what ever car/engine you want?) that was a question btw not a point so not sure if its true or not.

once again the main problem i can see with that is the inlet problem again, the inlet trace is too long which is the problem we had with the K-Tec kit, lowdown torque was missing which we have regained again with the modded airbox/filter

after three attempts at moving the feed, ive settled for the original renault location - so its no longer - only solid feed. the filter on my car isnt from a 1.2 as its got a 65mm inlet at the back, instead of the conventional 60mm which i feel does make a difference as the actual unit itself is larger. but in moving from the airbox design to an enclosed induction i feel its an improved design overall.

Yes the viper is generic and still suffers from heat soak with the carbofibre box! i had one and i got more bhp and torque from my own remodeled airbox! i had it on a 2.0lt 16v cavilier! also that flter is not a generic one from hks it was designed for a Evo 9 and was a replacement element i know it works as i have doe a few cars with this mod all performing better than any other panel filter and induction kit!

for the few pounds to do it why not try it and see middo!

i've spend ages perfecting my set up so dont think i'll bother to be honest! fair play for trying something different though ;)

who cares, its a 1.2 16v :D

who cares its a clio, last time i checked this site was called ClioSport, there is plently of 1.2 16v owners on here who i thought would be interested in this if you dont have anything decent to say (and that doesnt mean it has to be positive) dont say it!

i used to think that cliopsport was for cliosports like meganesport is for meganesports but now i have to completley agree with you if you took away the 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 / DCI / valver, williams, other marques who used to own a clio etc.. owners and just had cliosport 172/182/V6 owners the site membership would drop and so would the user account level by loads.

this site is open to anyone with an interest in clio`s and i seem to remember a thread recently about a certain black lowered 1.2 with black wheels being for sale but the owner having so much fun that he changed his mind as a coilovered clio is great fun very light compared with other cars in fact superlight compared with new clio or other superminis a 1.2 is under 1000kg so lighter than a cup. the 1.2 runs on the same chassis as a 172/182 so coilovered it will be a closer thing between the two in terms of handling than people would think

also people who have 1.6`s with 112bhp which if you remember the ford racing puma runs a 1.7, the mini cooper is a 1.6, the 125bhp lupo gti is a 1.6 and weighs same as clio so some induction exhaust and superchips work and you can have your 1,6 at lupo gti pace handling not not much cash and good economy low insurance.

finally you have 106bhp (lots of torque) DCI that can be mapped for £150 to 123bhp and more torque than a 182 + 65mpg ! as its a derv and sooo light + low insurance.

lol read my post on page one, thats what was on the car before we done the airbox/filter mod. the idea is their for the k-tec relocation kit but it doesnt work. loses you torque.

and Meggerman your so right, i dont know anyone of my mates who have a 1.2 which can put a smile on your face like mine can! the grip is amazing, the noise is great and to be honest for what it is it doesnt half go!
