have you ever claimed through them Kenny? I dont fancy trying from what I've heard in the past.

Yep and they were good tbh. Had to wait a bit to get my excess back but that was mainly due to the driver who crashed into my car 'disappearing' and not returning letters.

Last week I renewed with Greenlight on the 172 at a premium of £750ish. Well ive just traded the car in for a 182, and they said they won't charge me any more for the upgrade of insurance, just the £25 admin fee which i have paid.

Well ive just looked for some other quotes for the 182 out of interest, and they're coming out at £200 cheaper

Direct Line = £557.55
Privilege = £553.35

So basically, it sounds like Greenlight have kept my premium the same, even though its clear it should be cheaper... and charged me £25 for doing so! I reckon if i was to get a brand new quote from greenlight it would be cheaper than my previous premium of £750 which they have kept the same!

Im not happy, what's everyone else's opinion?

If you renewed the price on a 172 the rate would not be less for the 182 as the vehicle is the same group.

We have not kept any refund as there would not be one due from the insurance company.

If you can get the rate cheaper elsewhere you are welcome to cancel the policy. If you have turned 25 since renewing the policy it can make a massive difference to the premium. So quotes elsewhere would appear much less than ours (which may of been taken out at 24).

If you input a brand new quote for the details it would come out at the same annual premium as what the change of vehicle.

So basically you were expecting a £200 odd refund when changing from a 172 to a 182??

If you want to cancel the policy or discuss this any further please don't hesitate to call me on 01277 263030.

The 14 day cooling off period only applies to new business as renewals you are deemed to have accepted and understand the policy terms and conditions as you are renewing the existing policy and not starting a new one.

If you had told us when renewing the policy that you were looking to buy the 182 we could of told you the price would be the same as the 172 with just the £25 admin to pay to process the change.

Just a quick question, can you get protected no claims and add a named driver through Greenlight? Couldn't see the option anywhere when I got a quote.

Protected NCB will depend on how many years NCB you have, If you PM me the quote reference from our reply e-mail and i'll see if we can add it.

If you would like to add a second driver could you also PM me the driver details:

1) Name
2) DOB
3) Occupation
4) Length time held full licence
5) Details of any accidents/convictions within last 5 years
6) Required use of vehicle (ie social domestic and pleasure use, commuting or business use)

Once I have this i'll update the quote and see if the premium changes.

Oh Neil is it true that Greenlight don't insure 172 cups, thats what they told me after an online application. Due to bad claims history.

Yes mate we did insure them when we first started dealing with cliosport, after numerous fault crashes our claim statistics on the 172 Cups are very bad so the insurers we use asked us to stop quoting for this model.

Its strange because the figures on all other Renault Sport models even the Cups 'Fatter brother' the standard 172 are excellent.

The only thing we can attribute this to is the lack of ABS, as we had a number of claims from younger drivers locking the brakes and either hitting people in the rear or losing control.

Ok thanks Neil, the hunt for reasonable car insurance continues. Being 23, 6pts (2003), modified 172 cup and student isn't helping much!!

Thanks for replying Neil. Im 23 so my premium won't go lower that £700 from what you have said. Im not prepared to pay £160 to cancel my policy after less than a week, so i'll stay with you guys for this year, then cancel next year.

I guess i was just suprised how you've always been competitive for my 172 quotes, but £200 more expensive for the 182. I guess its just the different insurers policies showing their benefits over yours.

many thanks, Dan.
