Holidays off work / game release dates

  Skoda Fabia vRS
do any of you take your hols off work when a new game is released ?

last year i took the week off to play COD

and this year the g/f's birthday week is the same kinda date as Fallout New Vegas

just booked my last few days off for the release of COD 7, other people at work have Dec off and other dates in Nov so its worked out nicely actually

my brother does as otherwise he would never use his holiday but he only does it for cod afriend took it off for final fantasy too

No, I use annual leave to go on holiday or do jobs I can't fit in at the weekend/during the evenings.
If I had more days I probably would though...

I had a day off on Friday, but it wasn't for FIFA

Bought the game Friday morning, didn't play til Sunday :p

I did it once, back in the day when I played WoW. Wouldn't do it again, I'd much rather see some sunlight when I'm not at work these days!

I've done it twice.

COD WaW, GTA.

If I hadn't used this years holidays up, I'd do it for COD again this year.

It's only the same as taking days off for golf/footie matches etc.

Never done it, can't see me doing it either. Can think of numerous better ways to spend the valuable time I get to escape work.

If you booked time off to play a game when it's your other half's birthday then she'll (with good reason) be pissed. Coming second to a bloody computer game is a bit of an insult.

You took a week off to play cOD? you're nuts!

no i can't afford to take a week off, only get 27 days a year and theyr'e precious to me. I do however take the odd day if something special comes out, i took the day off recently to play starcraft2 which was cool. A week though!?! mental

well ive nothing else to take the time off for, ive already been away and i cant afford to go away again this year, i wont spend all day long playing the games but being able to get up early on the day to get a game on release day from the cheapest place is better than waiting for the shops to get stock back in for when i can get away from work or paying £40+ and waiting on delivery

I'd take a day off but a week would be too much for me personally. I get awful holiday allowance at work anyway! (Bare minimum by law).

Got a few days left so was tempted to take a day off for Black Ops but I'm still busy with MW2 and prolly' going to get Fifa so no massive rush or queuing up at midnight for me.

I moved my holiday back a week last year, to coincide with Forza 3's launch.

I actually didn't play it that much in the end, but it was a good, chilled week.

Actually yeah, in that scenario I can see why people would do it. It's nice to just have some time chilling at home rather than associating all holiday with being away abroad or getting stupidly drunk at a festival etc.

Lol! Funny how people do it though!

Im at Uni, would happily miss a few lectures if it meant the lads were round and playing some games, but not more than one or two.

I remember when i was in year 8 i think it was, and I asked my mom to get my the new GTA at the time (8 years ago whichever GTA that was) and she left work to pop up town and buy it me, she is a star :)

I wouldn't take time off for it, but sometimes I book random holiday off at work so I would change it around if the game on coming out around that date.

Nope - I would never do it. That said, I still have three weeks holiday entitlement before the Xmas break - of which I'm sure a fair bit of time might be spent on the PC. ;)

I never really understand the 'GET IT NOW IN THE FIRST MINUTE OF RELEASE' mentality that a lot of people tend to have. The midnight waits, the camping outside of shops, etc. Short of Rachel Weisz wanting to do some freaky sex s**t involving me and a pack of Oreos on the bonnet of a Scotia White Evo XI on launch night - I can't think of anything that would get me to be there in person to a product's release.

As Boosh said earlier - to me games are recreational and a good way to relieve a bit of tension or mental boredom. Just in the same way I like going for a drink - neither would control my life enough that I would book precious holiday time off for them.
