Has someone been naughty and put that spray stuff on it that makes speed cameras not pick your numberplate up? Dont knkw how thatd even work though without a light source nearby or wether that stuff even works at all.

Number plate is reflecting infrared from the cameras, common problem
A problem that can be sorted??
I have to say, I'm not very impressed with the night view. Could make out my face in the back garden or driveway. Seems a combination of lack of quality and over exposure.

I'm guessing the angle of which the IR light is hitting the plate is the problem.

Mounting the camera lower down looking more straight on to the plate would probably help.

Might be able to tweak a few things in the settings, things like wide dynamic range.

  An old banger!
My camera picked up this shady character last night - my road is very quiet especially at 2am. Looks like he spotted my camera and moved on

Although he could just be lost or drunk haha

So with the house purchase round the corner, I'm after CCTV.
I was going to buy all the kit and fit it all myself (I work in IT so it's nothing new to me and a friend of mine does it for a living). But I'm not so sure I can be arsed.

The idea of Nest is really appealing to me, yes at £170+ for a camera and then £8/month subscription it's not cheap but I think it's the route I'll go down as I'll only need 1 external camera, still not overly comfortable with the idea of internal cameras but may purchase one in the future.

Just think it will make my life a hell of a lot easier. Anyone else using it and got any views on it?

I would refer you to the first page of this thread regarding thoughts

Virtually f**k all was said about it tbh.

I was hoping for something a little more indepth from someone who sounds like they own it and have lived with it.
you say "f**k all", i think concerns was raised about the whole principle of it to be honest.

if file sizes are small for uploading then quality may not be great, if file sizes are massive like other wired systems that's a massive amount of data to upload.

ill keep watching to see if anyone knows?

Perhaps I'm old school, but I prefer to keep my content in-house, in the short term its perhaps more expensive but there is no monthly cost.

Nest is shocking. Hikvision external turret or Bullet camera, 128gb memory card, POE adapter and that’s around same price as nest.

All viewed on iPad or laptop or iPhone.

Because so far other than the promo video which we all know can be misleading at best I've not seen any footage or heard about what it's actually like.

Same as I've asked since the beginning I just want some opinions from people who have used it and live with it.

I don't need someone to tell me pricing, I don't need someone to tell me whether it's a waste of money. I just want to see if anyone's got any experience with it in terms of functionality and quality.

£100 a year to save on a £40 card you bung in and forget about it. Nest don’t monitor it!

Definitely seems like it's either both your way or not at all in this thread.

I've only asked for some info and rather than anything useful you've both told me it's s**t and the only reason you can give is that you can do the same thing cheaper elsewhere, or that I'm wasting my money but neither of you actually use it and know much about it at all from what I can see, which would have been a more useful response than what you've given.

I've setup plenty of CCTV before now and quite frankly I cannot be bothered with it all. I find that the detection software is s**t, the notification software is s**t and I'd personally rather a more polished experience not requiring VPN access etc to work on my setup. Dynamic DNS is b****cks too and doesn't always work and BT won't give you a static IP unless you're on a business line (apparently that's their policy now, no idea when that came in, probably with the shortage of IPv4 addresses).

And anyone who tries to say that uploading that quality of video is difficult, just remember it's google we're talking about. The likes of netflix stream 4k video, all this is is 1080p 30 fps. Don't kid yourself.
