Home Cinema/Surround Sound Info Needed

  Skoda Fabia vRS
we have a Panasonic TX32LXD60 tv and we want to hook up a surround sound system to it to get better sound

im wondering how it all hooks up, because really we would want it working on normal tv aswell, am i right in thinking you have to view everything through the dvd player they come with ?

at the moment we have the dvd, the cable V+ box, and the tv, but obviously the dvd will be replaced by the one with the home cinema kit

the problem ive got is that the V+ box is hooked up to the TV via HDMI cable, does that mean that the surround sound package we would need would have to have HDMI inputs and outputs ?

its all confusing to me

Brun you get a sound output from your cable box, DVD player etc that all plugs into your surround amp. In theory you should be able to use the HDMI cable for your TV and tuyrn the TV sound down then run an optical cable or normal line plugs (the red and white ones) from your cable box to the amp.

Apro po achieving surround sound as a great man once said ;)

ahhh, i see, makes more sense now

ive had another browse around and i should probably look for one with optical input, as im sure the V+ has an optical out, but i best check really

i guess it would connect up like this ?

V+ sound -> optical out -> s/s amp
V+ picture -> hdmi -> tv

DVD picture -> hdmi -> tv
DVD sound -> ???????

i really want to avoid using scart cables as i hate them, they are just poor quality, how would i get the sound from the dvd player to the tv ?....or do i even need to as it would be hooked up to the other speakers ?

i guess it would connect up like this ?

V+ sound -> optical out -> s/s amp - correct
V+ picture -> hdmi -> tv - plug into amp

DVD picture -> hdmi -> plug into amp
DVD sound -> connect to amp using co-axial cable

Using the 790 I posted as an example, do the above, and you can have both inputs running through the amp giving HDMI picture with full sound.

Sound down on the TV, turn the amp on, turn the V+/DVD on, adjust volume on the amp, enjoy.

That's what I've got with the 890.
