how can i turn the speaker off in my pc tower?

i have plugged in some speakers, but seems to have messed things up.

when i plug them in, music comes out of the speakers and out of the little speaker built into the pc tower.. how i can i make it so music only comes out of the speakers.

another problem is the volume icon in the taskbar only controls the speaker in the tower.. not the speakers. the speakers can only be controlled by itunes, which is what im playing music from..

i have been into control panel and selected desktop speakers from the options

2 ways !

1) double click the volume icon and find the pc speaker level.. mute it.
2) open the case follow the wire from the internal speaker and disconnect it from the mobo.
