How do I disconnect the colomn from the rack?

I'm in the process of lowering the sub-frame.

I can't see where I disconnect the steering column from the rack. Is it inside or outside the car?

there's a uj within the rubber boot ontop of the rack, with a pinch bolt through it (bit fiddly - need long extension)
