Hey

Now unfortunately the previous owner must has done some serious sand papering to a few largish stone chips. After a quick 3k paper wipe over some paint touch ups and then a polish the worse seems to have happend...

Now my sisters fella says its best to respray the entire bonnet, and he can do that for me for a reasonable price in the summer when he has some time free.

In the mean time i fancy having a play with some paints and i am wondering is this fixable DIY? I can get the rights paints no problem and if it feks up it can be resprayed anyway!

What would people do to attempt this repair?

ta all!

If you broke through the lacquer then you can always just blow some more on with a can then blend it in, but if its metallic and you've rubbed the basecoat down then it will always show. i did the same thing recently on a small spot on the boot. i dont care enough to do anything about it though just threw some more lacquer on.

I have the paint and some lacquer. I think i will try applying some paint, Sanding it with some 3k then apply some lacquer and sand again. Hopefully it will look ok :p
if not Rattle can the area and then polish it to hell and back! (gently)

Give the while bonnet a rub over with fine sand paper so it looks matt until your able to get it resprayed ;)

Have a read of that guide I told you about, but if you do polish it first, make sure to remove all residue before lacquering so it bonds properly
I did try and find the guide. I failed like a non attending school child does with exams.

Jesus Christ.

Don't try to rattle can that. It's barely noticeable as is, it will 100% be worse if you go near it with rattle cans. Leave it alone till you can get a professional to sort it.
