How do people play online?

I don't mean this as a technical question, more of a 'how the heck do you manage it?' type thing?

I've had Forza 3 for a month now and still haven't managed to play a single game online, it's impossible. I've tried several times, once the doorbell rang whilst I was in the lobby, I've had phone calls at the first corner of a race...something always crops up. I'm at the point where I don't want to risk getting a bad rep by bailing out so often, so I don't even try.

I'm not a busy person by any stretch of the imagination and I don't even have kids (god knows how people with kids manage), just me and the missus in our house. I just can't get a clear definite window to put some time into a game where I can't pause it at all, would love to take part in the Saturday morning enduros, but it just never happens for me.

What do you do? Allocate time to it and completely ignore everything during that time? Gaming without a pause button is a dark art, imo.

Lol - I know what you mean! Tbh, that's one of the reasons that I never really get properly involved online. I just can't commit to the time-frames for games and I don't think it would be fair on the other players - especially if they want to play seriously.

I got close - very close in fact when I was pumping hours into BF2142. Some of the players I used to add to the buddy lists, I could second-guess what they would do - even with no voice enabled in the game. They stuck to what they were good at - some would go all Rambo and hope for the best, whereas others repaired/resupplied/healed other players at the earliest opportunity.

They were great times - and when all the players worked together, I have yet to experience an online game like it. How much better that would be with voice enabled, I can only guess!

I've spent allot of days on BF2142 come in from work and weekends lol, and now it's on COD also while looking for a new job.

I do miss the 'GO GO GO' lol

it would be epic if COD had commands like spots and that like BF2142 did

PMSL! It always reminded me of Murray Walker, that!

Did you ever switch to English-only voiceovers? I thought about giving it a go, until I realised that there was a massive advantage in keeping the Russian-sounding PAC and English-sounding EU, seperate. Many a time I was taking cover and heard the opposing side's voice nearby. It really did help to evade them or take them on yourself.

Has to fit in with toddler, Corrie, XFactor and all other family bits. Usually when she has a bath or cooking. Mostly when I stay up swaying and trying to focus on the screen. Strangely I'm better after a few smokes and drinks.

i usually get online first thing in the morning if the wife is having a lie in or when she's gone to bed. finding time with 2 kids is fairly difficult, i have to grab every chance when i can!

You're not alone there, m8. I don't smoke, but I strangely become more focused in online racing after a few bevvies.

Probably all in the mind, but I do seem to make less mistakes! However, a few drinks really affects my FPS abilities - I'm never any good after that.

I never really get chance anymore.

Back at the start of this year I had plenty for some reason, but for the past 2 years it's never been the same as before.

Only thing that I ever did with my life was school back then, so every evening and weekend would be full of xbox.

More time in MW2 than BF2142, then? Crikey.

I can't imagine having the patience for 28 hours in MW2, let alone the 280+ I put into BF2142. :)
