How do u chrome a 16v vent

How do u chrome a 16v vent?

Seen several valvers at shows with it done (eg niteicon) and wanna do mine so what do you have to do?

Is it something you can do yourself or do you need to take it somewhere. I want it to look decent and I aint very handy at DIY.

If I have to take it to have it done does anyone know what sort of place to go to?

Any help would be sound,

Kev

Simple mate. I think theres two screws under the bonnet which hold the vent in place, so unscrew these, disconnet it and paint it. I think just silver paint looks better, depends on the colour.

My mate had a Williams blue 16v and painted the vent silver and had silver transfers on the doors, honestly it really did look GOOD!

MOST PEOPLE DONT CHROME THEM. They are polished back to the metal under that plastic coating. You can either spend hours polishing it or get it sand blasted which save you a hell of a lot of time.

i used sand paper ind different gradients working up to 1200 wet and dry, then i laquered it. Laquer is still on after a year and a bit.

Well Ive sent mine off to be chromed. If you polish it you need some pretty good lacquer over it otherwise itll crack off with the heat coming off the manifold. Getting the rocker cover, strut brace and bonnet vent all done at the same time for £60.

A local place to me in Southend. It might be done by next week... but theyve got a lot of work on. Every major town should have a place that does chroming. Look in the yellow pages under electroplating
