How Do You Fit Two Amps

  Black Clio 182

could someone tell me how to do this in simple terms please? ive got 2 amps and 3 subs. i have currently go one of the amps wired up and its powering 2 of my subs. cud u say what i would need as well cheers.

depends on loads of things (RMS power of amps, size of your exsisting power cable etc)

are you going to use the second amp to power one of the subs:confused: ?

  Black Clio 182

yeah i am going to use my second amp to power my other sub (isnt wired up to anything atm). will i have to connect my second amp up to the battery and to the head unit like the first amp is? or cud i get splitters on the wires so i can use the existing wires and just run them to the two amps?

  don't

big power cable through to where amps are

then run power cable into a splitter device

about £5-10

then u can have power cables running out of the block and to ur amps

then same as normal, remote cable can just be linked from 1 amp to another if u want or u could split it and run another cable when near the amps

earths need a good earth 4 each amp

sorted really

not that hard, drain ur battery alot though

Depending on your Head unit, you might also need some RCA splitters. But youll need to up the gauge of powercable, and add a distro block to it (and the remote feed)

Just out of interest, how have you got it set up? 3 subs must take up a lot of space in the boot.

yeah it is all set up, just need another amp which i am just about to buy. seem a lil complicated to set it all up lol. where can i get RCA splitters and how much? wud a powercap help in any way or is that just a waste?

  don't

splitters are cheap and ice shops should have them

same with power distrib box, most places should have

powercap wise, not 100% really

might be worth uprating alternater and battery if the drain is too much

whatever you do DONT buy a power cap

im lost is each sub getting the same amount of power?

what power output of the amps? what guage cable have you got from the batt?

  Black Clio 182

guage cable is 1000w one i think if thats what you mean. nah the subs wont have the same amount of power going to them if i buy this other amp. my amps will both be 1000w and the subs are 1200w.

  Polo + Micra

is that RMS? if so you will need more than 4 gauge power cable perhaps an extra run of it.

  Black Clio 182

nah thats max power. what do you mean by gauge power cable? do you mean the cable that runs from the battery to the amp?

  Polo + Micra

gauge is the size of the cross sectional area of the copper part of the cable. yeah the cable from the battery to the amp.

its the important one because of the length of it

have the amps got any fuses in them?? to give an idea how much power they actually produce

  Polo + Micra

im guessing that some 4 gauge wiring will be fine

at a rough guess the maximum draw for those amps will be about 90A.

thaen just get some rca spliters and just put a link from amp 1 to amp 2 for the remote

i have a distribution blco kfor sale £15 with 4x 60A fuses, pm me if interested (4awg input)

rca splitters available from all ice shops, they are univerally known as rca splitters/y-leads

how comes you suggest not buying a powercap?? seems strange not too especially if you want to run 2 amps on one battery?

well running 3 subs will be a lot of power on 2 amps, as 1 amp is going to running 400w rms on 1 sub alone, dont know about the other 2 subs. also if he running this all on one battery and std alternator, this ice will prob kill his alternator if he likes listening to bass.... the power cap will stop the amp draining a lot of power from the battery when needed.. I personly would suggest having a 1 farrad power cap and def uprate your alternator to at least 80amps?

the power cap has got to get its power for some where??

imagine a piece of music with 6 bass beat in quick sucsession, the cap will supply power on the first beat but take away power on the other 5 due to the fact the cap has a lower internal resistance.

I wouldnt ask about power caps youll end up with a debate, opinions def split on that one.

If you want a steady flow of power to the amps then upgrade the battery and alternator.

all i say is imho my lights dipped less without the power cap and i wont be putting it back in for my 1000w amp

will find that a car batt will be able to supply peak amps of 600+ for 30 second bursts. just check the cca of the batt. if it 300 then you can get 300amps for 30 secs and so on. no need for a capacitor when ya batt can supply more power than ya need.

i have wired up my two amps now. subs sound f**king mad lol. i went into sound supreme like someone suggested and told them what i needed and the bloke kept on trying to sell me stuff i didnt need and i asked him how much it would cost and he said about £90?? just for the wires. i went to another car specialists shop near me and found what i wanted and got it all for about £25 i think it was. got a rite bargin lol.

he tried flogging me loads of stuff i didnt need. he wanted to sell me another wiring kit for £60 wen i just needed 2 wires out of it. then he wanted to sell me a distribution block for about £20 and then he wanted to sell me the RCA splitters and he said they were £20 each or summit like that wen i got one for £3.49 lol. i think its because he fort i didnt know what i was going on about wen i first went in there and cuz i hadnt brought the amps from there so he wanted to make some money. probably would of been cheaper if i asked him to wire it up him self.
