How does Steam work?

  E39 530i
Are you able to download the games and play offline i.e. sat on the train? or do you need a working internet connection.

As Greeny said. Steam might sometimes be more expensive than buying retail versions of games, but at least now I don't have to store a ton of game boxes everywhere. Or get off my lazy butt to buy a game ;)

Also, it now features the "Steam Cloud" so it backs up user settings when you're connected online, so you can retain them if you use more than one machine (like me).

Edit: Regarding Macs, they've recently added Mac support... iirc there is an Apple section on Steam, showing which games are supported.

If you have no internet connection when you start Steam it will give you an option to start in offline mode, you don't need anything special.

Oh nice one, do you need anything special as I've got a mac pro laptop will this work?

There are some games for Macs. I downloaded Half Life 2 yesterday, there's a few others too but as you would expect there are much more for PCs. You could always install windows on boot camp and play the PC games that way.

What!? Keyboard and mouse are fine, in some ways I prefer them to a controller. You can be much more precise with a mouse than a controller imho.

Controllers are shite for any FPS games, fact. All depends what you like to play.

FPS + Mouse and Keboard = Win
So much better than a control pad.
A good Mouse and Keyboard player will own a good Control Pad player on any FPS.
