How faster is a Golf mk4 turbo than a 182!?

  Monaco Blue 172 (56/468)
Just wondering how much faster if at all a 225bhp Golf mk4 turbo is than a standard 182 to 60?

J182sport

true is it a 180bhp remaped or a 150bhp remaped?

still a standard one will not be no!

  mini cooper (RIP 172)
the golf r32 v6 has 240bhp and its 0-60 in about 6.4 sec! think thats the best mk4 golf u can get i think

  renaultsport 172
aye

1.8t 150bhp
1.8t anniversary was 180bhp
vr6 4 motion 204bhp
r32 240bhp

a remap on either of th 1.8t versions would only see 207-210 bhp, your looking at upgrading the turbo to push higher

Had a go in a mates 238bhp golf 1.8t it was seriously rapid dont think it had uprated turbo though, didnt have my 182 then but think the golf was quicker,in a straight line anyway

someone was just tellin me that there mk4 turbo was pushin out 225bhp and how he left a 182 standing......thought it still weighs the same as a tank so cant be that much quicker than a 182!!

Don't know about putting the 225 lump in a golf, but my LCR (or my bro's 225 TT) will pull a couple of lengths in a comparison to the 182 - so hardly leaving it standing...

Did you not think it could be a wind up? Bhp is one of those things that is always quoted in a 'mines quicker than yours' argument but it's often a tall tail.
Most of the time people who pluck these figures out of the air have no idea wheather the reading was from the flywheel or through the tyres or even if the reading was measured on a reliable bit of kit.

If his car was a 1.8t then it's more than lightly a 150bhp version and this figure is the manufactures claim, there is no telling wheather his car even made this figure when new. The turbocharger in a 1.8t is a low compression turbo which is designed to be small enough to come on boost earlier in the rev range.
Golfs are much more solid and well built cars than the clio making them heavier, I have no idea if the chap you spoke to was telling porkies but I would think that the golf would need much more than 225bhp to literally leave a 182 standing....
In standard trim they barely match the power to weight ratio of the earlier models as the MK4 is about 48% heavier than the original Mk1.

Now if it was a mk1 or Mk2 golf with 225bhp he'd almost certainly leave you floundering in his dust.

  Not got a car
1.8t 150bhp are slow as f**k and the go round corners as fast as a 3 wheeler. But with a remap and breathing mods they are quick.

owning a golt 1.8t with about 200bhp (remap, exhaust and and air filter) id say on the motorway it would have the edge, but between roundabouts etc i dont think it would have a chance.

The Mk5 Golf is 227bhp, so that's probably the one he was talking about? Either way, 173bhp/ton is all they are, so I'd imagine it's only at higher speeds where the extra power would come into play, but leave a 182 standing? Not a chance stock vs stock

I dont see why people care so much if one is car is faster than another or slower. At end the end of the day the 172/182 is a slow car, its not that much quicker than most cars. theres alot of better and alot faster cars out there. you shouldnt be racing or driving fast on roads so it shouldnt matter. only time when people should is on a track. a few tenths of second from 0-60 is nothing between cars.

Golf GT TDI PD 150 & CLIO
I have had a remapped MK4 1.8T running just under 200 bhp and it was pretty much identical performance as the old 172's.
I now have a Jabba stage 2 tuned GT TDI PD150 running 223bhp and 503nm torque and that beats Type R's/Clio's up the strip on the road but not on a track!! It is a lot better than the Golf 1.8T.
When it comes to handling its no match for any of the Clio Sports gang or Type R club, Its just got fantastic straightline power and always does 40mpg even after 1/4 Mile runs.
It does 0-60 in 6.2 secs launching in 2nd as it has so much torque! and does the 1/4 mile in 14.4.
So if you are going down the Golf MK 4 route go for the TDI and tune it, I have spent just over 1.5k to get it to this spec plus £700 for a clutch that can hold the torque!
Also a very big fan of the Clio Trophy might be my next car and I also have a Clio DCI running 130 bhp with just a re-map and still returns 55mpg which is great.
Although in this day and age around 200bhp isn't fast like the chap above said, but there is no substitute for torque and the feeling of power you get and there is nothing more fun to drive than a clio with a 2l Engine!! lol

there fook all in it tbh, mine has the fancy gearbox which makes it quicker, but its still heavy, the extra torque is what helps, and top end i'd say it'll be a good 10mph faster as a Mk 5 will top out at 148, unless your on a straight bit of autobahn I doubt one would pull much further away than the other

silly bugger!

Wouldn't mind a Golf TDi job for a sensible/family bus. A mate of mine has one and loves it.

Alright Gramps!!!

They are 150 or 180 in standard form.

I had a few standing straight line plays with a remapped 200bhp one in my old hybrid and pulled a few cars on it so i should imagine one with 225 horses will be pretty evens with a 182. Try chucking some country lanes into the equation though and maybe not so even!!! :D
