How important is this bit (Structurally speaking)

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
I have a mk 2 Phase 1, and I have a great idea for my rear lights, but it involves cutting away part of the cars structure.

Basically, I need to cut a square out BEHIND the rear lights, So I can still change the bulbs without taking the light off?

Will cutting a square out affect the structure in anyway? I know its only a small piece, but everythings there for a reason, and Renault didnt intend for some c**k who thinks he can design a clio better than them to start cutting small pieces of the shell out I know, but will this affect much?

Honest answers only please, although my flame suit and gloves are firmly in place :)

Thanks

i cant see it being too much of a problem, they're only thin after all.

Im guessing you're smoothing in the rear lights to the bodywork? If so its been done many times before, so there must be an method of mounting them so the bublbs can be changed.

you guessed it fubar, I've never saw it on a clio, I presumed this was the reason, My Bodyshop seemed very reluctant to do this, and in the end said they wouldnt do it unless we got more info on it, Very sensible and professional of them i thought!

Thanks guys, just need the cash now :D

leds never die unless ya wak too much juice through em, n a wouldnt worry bout cutting away, aslong as ya dont cut through a bartype of steel if its flat go for it, if ya cutting bar like the cross sections ya fing under ya bonnet, a wouldnt bother

I agree

i wouldnt mate, think about it if Reno could have saved money by leaving that bit of metal out they would have! Think how many Clios have been produced and how much metal would have been saved say over one million cars, so i reckon ots there for a reason and if it forms part of the structure/crumple area leave alone mate, it will hurt when ya get whacked trust me!!!!

not a very good argument, bending sheet metal takes seconds, think of the extra time cost ect to remove it, for no reason, not going to save sweet fa. then they have a hole they need to edge and or make sure its not letting water in.

in summary: it would cost them more to remove a square than to keep it.
