how long for the oil to heat up?

how longs it take at say a steady 50mph drive for the oil in a 172 to heat up to the right temp?

I'm the same, like to give it 10 -15 minutes before I rev it over 4k. Hopefully this will give the engine a chance of surviving the hard time it gets for the time it spends over 5k

About as long as the coolent takes to warm up depening on driving though.

I like to wait around ten mins, before going over 5,000 rpm.

Longer than you would think My old 309 and 205 GTi's used to take 10-15 mins after getting the coolant up to temp for the oil temp to come up. I normalyl give the 182 another 5 mins after getting the water temp up before giving it the full beans.

I usally wait about 20 mins of normal driving to wait for the oil temp to pick up, bit more if i've been sat idling.
