How low should i go

My clio is lowered 35mm at the front and im gettin the back done this week, i was thinking of lowering it 60mm at the back, what do you think?

Im assuming youve got a Mk1 Clio with two torsion bars at the rear - and not one with a load-sensitive rear brake valve (on models with rear discs - i.e. 1.8 Bacarra, RSi, 16v and Williams) or wide arches (16v and Willy). In this case, you can go pretty much as low as you like. Youll need to mind what offset your wheels have however: if you choose 15s or 16s with a standard offset and normal sidewall tyres, you will probably get some scraping and some fouling of the bottom of the rear arch.

I hear that if your car has rear discs (and a load-sensitive rear distributing valve) then you need to have that adjusted to take into account the different forces that a fair bit of rear end lowering create.

Yeah thats a good point! The load-sensitive brake force distributing thingy, i have a new clio dynamique, with drums on the back......and ABS. Does this have such a device??? If it does i guess i will have to get it adjusted when it gets lowered, but, im not sure if it will have. I know of many Saxos that have been trashed due to -60mm lowering and not having this adjusted!! (rear end locks first), cheers, Rob

I dont think its much of a problem if you go -30/40mm, as is usual on a car with struts at the back (e.g. Clio 2), but with torsion bar cars like Clio 1 and the Saxo people often go a lot lower - hence the need to adjust the load-sensitive thingy.
