What is it with this cup thing . Do people honestly assume that just because you have no abs your automatically going to have an accident.

So if I drive sensibly just because I have a little cup badge my car is going to be magnetically attracted to a tree more than any other Clio.

If you drive like a Knob then the chances are your gonna crash if you know your limits and know how to drive a car properly the chances are you aint going to crash.

Having abs is a good thing but then again what did people do before abs, esp etc etc. Personnally I have always had non abs cars so don't know the difference but then again im not mental like some guys on here so ill hopefully being seeing my cup on the drive still come March 07.

It's not just you though, it's everyone else on the roads or conditions etc

I crashed my old 1.2 MK2 on black ice at low speed in a carpark, and ABS would most likely have saved it

i think the same as u mate, pisses me off when ppl put stuff like that, ohh cups are deadly, well how about when its icey or the roads are like rivers u back off a bit, coz ur gonna kick yourself if u dont. ive never had abs or even power steering til now but i havent had a crash yet, touch wood. if u got any sense u wont drive like a c**k when weather is bad.

Totally agree, it's the driver not the car. The lack of ABS issue is just an excuse for people who push too far imo

  Megane 225 Cup
I owned a cup for nearly three years and I only had trouble with the lack of ABS once. That incident was down to me driving like a buffoon and not down to the lack of ABS.

As for the traction control, I never noticed it. Quite a few cars don't have traction control (some of the ones i drive at work certainly don't) and again it's down to the way you drive the car.

I wonder how my old cup is getting on and if the new owner is on here? L**3VAX if anyone recognises it.

ive had mine for nearly 10 months and only really needed the abs once, and im not sure if even that would of helped. As for esp, i dont see the need for it at all, youve got to be pushing the car to stupidity to actually need it. If you crash and honestly belive that the esp would of saved you, then you were driving like a knob.

JACKO CUP 172!

when i had my old cup i hit another car.if ihad abs i would of most defo ended in the field but it just skided in a straight line and hit the other party!! ether way it would of been a write off!! tbh abs is a load of ol bosh have driven a few cars with it and was tryin my hardest to make it kick in but it didnt happen...

  172cup
I turned me esp off in 172 today - just for a laugh! Wasn't pushing too hard and I didn't really notice any difference.

serioiusly what happened before the early to mid 90's?

nothing except bm's and mercs etc had traction control/ and abs, it suprises me anyone is left on this planet, as they should have all crashed and died in thier non abs cars

boring

lol

  Leon Cupra 300
I dont see the deal is.. i hold my hands up i'd prefer it if my cup had abs and esp just incase its ever needed.. but then i dont like the look of the FF's so have to make do without.

oh......... it is quicker though ;)

Lol so thats sorted then no one is really bothered by the abs thing, yes it's nice to have but then again when i was looking at clio sports it was like have a 172-182 for 10k or have a cup for 6k.

Hmmmmmmm decisions I choose appropriatly i think but then again im tight like that lol.

Sometimes accidents can't be avoided but that will happen if you have abs, esp, and so one so forth , even a bullet proof button cant stop accidents :S

Nothing to do with a lack of ABS it's a lack of talent combined with an overestimated level of the cars and drivers ability that alot of cup owners suffer from ;)

  Impreza P1
That goes for all drivers mate, not just Cup owners in other words if you drive like a nutter you will have a smash at some stage thats pretty certain.

That wasnt directed at you personally. You only have to read the threads on here, particularly relating to driving threads to see that there's an attitude that far more cup drivers than FF drivers display. The kind of attitude that leaves me unsurprised that an incident involving rear ending another car or taking a detour into roadside foliage happens moreso to them at this time of year.

I think this whole subject of the winter being a "Cup killing season" is pretty much flawed.
Yes there are less Cup's on the road now than there were when production ceased, thats just a given....all cars crash come rain or shine, and some of them were no doubt Cups.

What im more interested in is seeing how many MK 1 172's and FF 172's are still about. Think of it this way, 2392 Cups to start with an now only 2000??
Well thats only about 400 gone in 3 years...

Now of the 4416 FF 172's made, does anyone think that less than 400 have been wiped out in the same amount of time?
