The sad thing is that I've actually kept/maintained a spreadsheet of costs since I bought my Trophy over 5 years ago. I was going to post it up as part of my car thread but I just can't bring myself to do it. It's pant-sh!ttingly scary how much gets spent over time, especially when modifications are factored in, along with servicing, maintenance and so forth.

My 1.2 owes me about 3k in all. It's all very well saying 'you could buy a 1*2 for that' but the reality is that it's 150 here, 220 there, which I can just about afford, rather than 3k up front.

Yeah, I'll probably man up and spill the beans once the forged engine build is complete. I'm not at 50k but well on the way (which is ridiculous really!) But hey, I love the car and the whole driving experience it provides; and you only live once. Damn these addictive little things. And you know exactly where I'm coming from Chip! No doubt I would have saved thousands if I had even a fiftieth of your spanner and tuning mechanicalibilities.

The thing is, its a hobby, so when people say "for 8k you could have bought an evo" but then I wouldnt have the fun of building my clio, its better than spending the money on beer and pissing it up the wall at the end of the night
Yeah Im lucky that other than paintwork and geo setup I dont actually pay for anything labour wise on any of our cars, all my bills would be double if I did, if not more, as the amount of manhours that goes into some of the work is quite a lot.

Bought My 05 1.4 1 year ago for 3k had 40000 miles on it. In that year I have spent around £800
£500 was too get it through mot new tyres brake discs exhaust mounting. then I had to tax it twice at 93.50 a time. Also needed new wheel bearing Got ripped off by local garage for £170 for that. Also had problem with Linkage on windscreen wipers needed re assembling that cost £45. I now need a service and a cambelt change. also need front windscreen wipers sorting out on auto setting they will cut out for no reason mid windscreen. and they will not move at all on the fastest setting. Garage have said this is likely to be the stalk. And say that it`s expensive because, steering wheel needs to be removed and complications with air bag So Will probably need to sink another £500 into it this too keep it up together. Then I could do with new steering wheel has funny surface to it and new gear stick. The numbers are no longer visible. And when teaching a new starter It would be a good help to them too see the numbers of the gears. Car has cost me a fair bit But I Really do love the car

Got it booked in on the 8th to get its belts and water pump done for £180 so grand total for a mk2 ph2 1.2 16v so far is..... £1070.00
Minus buying of car = £320.00
Once I've got the belts done, theres nothing else the car needs, almost immaculate and runs really well! Hopefully trouble free for the next couple of years!!.. Wishful thinking though I know lol.

Just totted up receipts and...£3050. That doesn't include the 2.1k to buy the car or any performance / mods apart from some 182 Cup alloys. But I bought wrong, as I wanted one and new naff all about them everything needed doing, belts, de-phaser, cambelt , auxillary belts, brakes, suspension the bas***d lot. If I'd have coughed up rather than scraped I'd have had a minter and I've learnt my lesson. But it's nearly there now, little visit to K-Tec and we'll be sorted

On my first RB 182 about £1K then the £4500 to buy it and crashed it about 6 months into ownership. Only got payed about £3600 through insurance but lost my job and ended up living off my insurance money.
By the time I got a job I just had enough left for the ph1 at £1600 spent about £2k in the year and crashed that and sold it as it was for £500.
Now I'm onto this 182 costing £2200 but needs a good £1k spending on it before I even look at some coilovers etc. Just really hope I don't crash this one as I have had no luck so far, I've said if I do bin it then I give up and I'm going to get something mega cheap lol.

Surely that was just your initial cost of building?
Around 17k or so when I'm finished including purchase price
That includes a good few spare suspension parts, 3 sets of wheels and tyres.
Would hate to think of the cost if it wasn't built by myself and parts got for cheap 30-40k

Not if that includes keep buying and selling cars, as if its 40K out but you have had 30K of it back again, its actually a very modest outlay over a five year period really.

50K!!!! is this inclueding petrol and insurance ect lol i hope so otherwise i dont feel bad atol about what i have spent on mine.
Jokes aside tho, the money that i spent on my car im not botherd about because i enjoy driving it everyday and i know its well looked after and im not holding my breath everytime im throwing it down a country lane thinking something is going to go wrong on it.

Well I've owned my ph 1 form new. It only had 8 miles on the clock when I got it from Dover docks as it is an import. It. Cost me £10999. In 13 years I've easily spent that amount and more modifying it and I still haven't finished it lol
