How much is this worth?

05 Black gold 182, 51k miles.

Bodywork and interior is immaculate bar 1 dent which will cost £50 tops.

It needs:

48k miles service
New brakes all round
2 new tyres on the rear
Tax end of this month

What do you think it will be worth? I offered £5900 cash on sunday, he wants no less than £6250 for it.
Should I bite the bullet and just pay more to get it spot on, or should I walk away?

He knows I want it by Sunday though, and reckons it is well priced.
He's selling it for his mother in law and says she wants a good price for it.

Even taking into account it needing around £1k's worth spent on it over the next 2 months?

I really want it, was a really well kept car, just wish it had been service/taxed/had tyres replaced at least!

Sorry, just re-read your first post, if it needs a grand spent on it in a few months, leave it.
Imo cars where you have to shell out straight after buying just show that they haven't been maintained fully.

Thats a good call.
But it is immaculate, and is a stunning looking car.

Plus there aren't many around at all with the criteria I have.
The brakes will last a month easy, the tyres will last 2 months at a guess so it isn't all straight away, but fairly soon after buying.

Just text him saying I will go to the most £6k.
I hope he accepts.

To be fair when your hankering after a car you think to yourself, hmmmm I quite fancy it, then you start considering buying it, but tbh you never know what's round the corner - a complete minter might turn up next week for a nice price, or it may not. Luck of the draw tbh dude.

Like I said it's a tough call, I would offer him what you did again, or a touch more, explain about the work neded on it, then leave it. See if he accepts.

- edit, just seen that you've messaged him.

Yeah, undestand exactly what you mean.
The buyer for my car wants it on Sunday though, so i'd like to get one sorted for then.

With it being local-ish too it makes things much more simple. I really want it, but need to keep my sensible head on.

Mate, don't get caught up in new-car fever. No way in hell is that car worth 7250, which effectively in what you'd be paying. There's plenty of choice, and it's a buyers market. Put it this way, the car is as I said effectively £7250. On sunday, my Trophy (mint condition), with 4 nearly new tyres, brakes less than 6 months old, exhaust+decat, BMC induction, all services done, £7000. On the same mileage as the car above. Sorry to be harsh, but you'd be a mug to pay that price.

I appreciate the honesty mate, easy to get a blinkered view when after a new car.

How much would you say it is worth?
I see what you mean, but it would be 100% mint once everything is done, £7k in total would be my aim.

2mins on autotrader. Just found 4 black golds, less mileage, all services done, £5500-6000. With the work required, I wouldn't pay a penny over £5500 for that car.

Also depends what year your looking at, i traded mine in Jan this year for the 197..... 35k on the clock for £7.5, which for a trade in price wasnt bad imo....... Shocking that they are 6k imo

I would like as new as possible, 05 preferably.

Warren, thanks for the link.
I'm not specifically after a black one, just this one seemed mint.

He just rejected my £6k offer, so thats that car out of the window, the search continues!!

Don't take this the wrong way, forget local-ish. You need to be willing to travel say 80 -100 miles, sometimes more. I've been willing to travel to the other end of the country before (spoke to folk about cars in scotland) Ok so it's a big gamble, but you have to get a load of pics & really sound the seller out, but it may pay off :)

The local-ish comment was only due to wanting it on sunday. can't get the cash for my car before then. plus i can't be left carless, so need to be 100% on a car before i can let mine go realistically.

I'm thinking, maybe get a £500 run around and wait for the perfect car to come along?
Also gives me some more time to save up some extra cash for one?

If you're can't be without a car for a few days just rent one - 25 quid a day and go hunting for a mint 182. That's what i would do.

waste of money what if it turns into weeks etc, there's the couple of 100 notes he loast on the 182.....

Sell yours on Sunday, then tap up your rents or bro/sis if you have one to go look at a car with you. There is no harm looking at & putting a deposit on a car now though, just pay the seller for the 182 when your dude pays you for yours.

I'm not going higher than £6k for that black one though, not with the amount of work that it needs on it.

A £500 banger will lose next to nothing if it comes Tax'd and MOT'd so would do me for a few months.
Insurance would be cheaper for a bit, plus gives me time to find a real perfect car, rather than be in a bit of a rush.
