How often should gearbox oil be changed on a 182

  "Navy" N17 TWO
On that note, what is the reccomended oil?
I'm guessing it's one of the ELF oils :)

I'd say user preference I'd change mine at 36k I think but realistically 72k will be be fine, 75-80w 3.1 litres. The recommended oil is quite dear can't remeber what it is off the top of my head though.

The recommended is tranself trx/trj 75w80 although any 75w80 will do, I quite like the castol epx stuff seems to suite the boxes just fine.

Changing it isn't on the service schedule but imo it should be done every couple of years for "normal" miliage.

I do mine once a year, only £35ish for the proper stuff.

anyone got any guides as to how to do this on a dci 65? if so, is it an awkward job?

i had asked my mechanic about it and he'd said that you would never really need it done as it supposedly long life oil? i found this slighly hard to believe. anyway, help appreciated

Yes its supposadly(sp?) fill for life but I don't buy that, they seem to benefit from changing it so its worth it imo for the little cost. Filling it back up can be fun though if you haven't got the right stuff to do it.

If I'm not mistaken you can get a tube that Renault use to refill the gearbox oil, and it stays on?

Pass, never seen one. I've got a stirup pump and just pump it in, can be done with a funnel and a hose apparently too.

Garden hose, funnel and a smaller bit of pipe to go in the filling hole. Works fine though. Might try Elf next time, the stuff I have now stinks to high heaven!
