If the mechanism returns there is no need to check it.

Most will check levels weekly, so when closing check it then:S

It's not rocket sceince!

my bonnet catch will not quite open the bonnet by itself. It wont quite release far enough. Is there anything I can try?

you can do it yourself if it looks rusty simply take it into a renault dealer they do it for free because they reconise that its a problem:)

got my car in 2003... never checked it, never had a problem. SBV sprayed some grease in it about 3 months ago, but it was more out of courtesy than necessitiy

If it catches when you close it (ie, it wont open if you pull up on the bonnet) it will be fine. I struggle to believe humans are so stupid that we have had all these cases (although oddly noone on cs.net) of peoples bonnets not being closed properly when all it takes is a quick tug to check it (like you would do on any car!). I mean really, the catch may get stuck open, but who closes their bonnet, doesnt hear a massive clunk of the catch returning and walks off thinking its fine? Darwinism at its best methinks
