How Often...........

Re-gasses you mean....Not for a while yet shorty! Mine 4yrs old and fine. Run hot and cold once or twice a wk.
 
I know on bm's they generally re gas them every 3 years or so.. if you dont use it much it needs re gasing more often, i wouldnt imagine it been any different on a clio! :D
 
Never had a problem on my 172 , was just over 4 years old and the air con was used daily , hopefully the 182 will be problem free also :)

You mean cleaned Maz , not regassed ??

You can buy some stuff for cleaning the air con , never used it myself cos i never felt i needed to .

Yeah I mean cleaned . .noticed it on the service board at Reno yesterday £80+ and didn't realise I had to get this done so i though I ought to ask when is the best time to do it :)
 
My car is 6 years old and the AC still works fine, perhaps it's been cleaned during service time?
 
£80 :eek: They'll probably just one of this aerosols , robbing b*stards . Tbh i wouldn't bother , if you really want it cleaned do it yourself with these aerosols and save yourself alot of money .
 
I don't mind paying the money to be fair cause you can't be too carfull with air con and that L word thing (got I can't remember what its called or probably spell it if I culd remember) :o lol

Plus everything else I have tried to do myself has ended in tears :dapprove: (touch up pen :clown: ) pmsl
 
I'd say cleaning the air con isn't a necessity , more of a precautionary measure . You mean legionella ;) ?

If you think about how many cars on the road today have air con , i'll bet its a very high percentage that don't realise it can be cleaned or actually have had it cleaned . I can't remember seeing many cases of death by a cars dirty air con though , lol !

I understand where your comin' from about the diy air con , i saw the touch up pen pics :eek:
 
Kwik Fit are doin some deal at the mo.

Checking and refilling for 30/40 quid or something. They even guarentee to make it colder????

mentioned this to my local garage and he recommends cleaning regularly - as its only about 10quid for one of the forte aerosols. better to be safe than sorry.

regassing is 'supposed' to happen around every 3 years, but unless its not performing as well i dont think theres any point. my mate has a focus with AC on an 02 plate and it desperately needs doing as its no colder than normal air when he turns it on.
 
I put mine on at least once a week, the refrigerant (R134a if you are getting picky) helps circulate the PAG oil thats also in they system and thats what keeps all the orings/seals lubricated and sealing properly, if they dry out and shrink back that's what tends to cause the loss of gas and then s**t performance from the aircon.
 
Using the AC more often is better for it than not using it at all, even in the winter your best to use the aircon but just adjust the temperature so its warmer rather than cool air.

People do have more problems with the AC when they don't use it as often as others as said above.

We've started doing aircon where I work and to properly clean it through a machine it takes roughly 40-50 mins i'd say. That includes de-gasing it, cleaning, recharging it up and adding any oil in that may have been taken out.

I would say yours wouldn't need doing for a while yet.

^^ so if you switch it on weekly it shouldn't need serviced/cleaned as often ?? is that what your saying ?? :)

yes.

Also people seem to think that you only use A/C in the summer, you can use it at any temp. It'll clear windows of condensation in the winter quicker as it will draw the moisture out of the air in the cabin.

yeah. i dont tend to use mine at all during winter, or extremely rarely - so will probably clean it out next summer. one of those little aersols is a good bet though, as they just help to freshen it up and kill any bacteria in there. they're also reallly simple to use.

Thanks for that Middo I will be avoiding DIY from now on :o (touch up paint) and will leave it to the experts ;) pmsl
 
on land rovers we service the air con systems every two years. it is best to use them every week, and as already said, it can be used to clear your windows, as the soul purpose of air conditioning is to remove humidity from the air and purify it.
 
the aerosol cleaning cans by forte really are a piss of pie to use. spray the can into the car like an air freshener, then leave the air condition running for 10mins. then go to BP as you will have used about £5 of fuel in the driveway lol
 
I am reliably informed that the reason aircon systems need re-gassing, maintaining/break down etc, is because the refridgerant gas in the systems acts as the 'lubricant' for the pipework when in use.

i.e you don't use it - it don't work!

Switching the air con on for about 10 mins per week of driving all year round should erradicate any future problems.

It is THE best way to de-mist a car in winter....

Follow the above and it should be smiles all the way!!!!
