How to avoid orange brake disks when cleaning?

As title, I think it is the Bilberry wheel cleaner that does it.

I know not to spray directly towards brakes and don't intentionally, but when the car is completely finished and you stand back to look at the finished result, it's annoying that the disks are bright orange.

The orange goes when you apply the brakes but when you show someone the result of your 5 hours of hard work and the first thing they say is, "How come the brakes are rusty?", It's a bit saddening!

Apologies if I am doing something stupidly wrong but it came to my attention the other day.

Discs are metal, you clean a car with water.

Nothing you do will stop it!

(You could spray WD40 on your discs before washing the car but you'd die. At least you'd have shiny discs though??)

It's just surface rust builds up quickly on the discs, nothing much you can do about it.

There is a way, but it would take more time then its worth lol

Remove Wheel and cover disc's with a bin liner ;)

You can't. As has been stated above. Most detailers roll the car they've finished and lightly apply the brakes before taking photos.

I just get the air compressor on them after washing so it takes the water off. Clean brakes no worries. ( low compression gun btw )

Oh dear.

The only way to avoid it is to remove your discs, or possibly buy carbon ceramic ones ?

LOL !

To avoid this I have cut up two ceramic dinner plates so they fit neatly behind the wheel and cover the disk but not the caliper so it can still be cleaned. Works well however I had to reduce my meal sizes.

To avoid this I have taken up the attitude of I don't give a s**t the rest looks clean.

Or just drive forward 5 feet with your foot on the brakes.

Unbelievable.

I work in the design and development sector for one of the most anal car manufacturers, where every conceivable detail is considered.I hear of ridiculous things, almost hourly.

This by far takes the biscuit.

By your location and that description, I'd guess it starts with a Mc and ends in Laren ?

Wow.

I didn't think it was that stupid a question tbh, seeing as dabbing the brakes of every car you clean to make it photogenic is hardly ideal.

Obviously by the tone of some replies people think otherwise.

Take the brake pads out and rub them around the surface of the disc. Call it it a rotor if you have man-spec brakes.

For best results, spray a bit of Iron-X on the surface of the pads first.

this is a new low for CS. You might as well ask how do I drive to work without getting it dirty. Srs. That's just as silly
