how to clean your bmc?

ok i got the cleaning kit and applied the cleaning solution as it said, and then when it came to rinsing the filter out with cold water, it says not to do it with flowing heavy water so sorta like in a bucket of cold water as can be seen by the picture

however its so dirty and nuthing comes out properly, av put mine under the tap and shower lol and so much s**t in there , not all comes out, its as clean as i can get it but you can still see some dirt on the red bit as you look in that you cant get out..

is it ok to stick it back on the car like this? dont want dirt getting in the engine. its as clean as i can get it though

tips? advice?

Aren't you meant to poor the water from the inside so that it filters the dirt on the outside and nothing can contaminate the internal side?? Maybe worth trying it a few times to break down the dirt...

I've got a K&N filter cleaning kit so will give it a try on my BMC this weekend. How long did you let the cleaning fluid do its job for?

yeah but some of the dirt inside you cant get out .. well hard

and let cleaning solution absorb for 10 mins and then rinsed just as it said in the instructions

the heavy water they're talking about is a jet wash which would blow holes lol shower sounds a great idea. you're unlikely to get a cotton filter spotless but cleaning out as much as you can is great. Sounds like you've done it just right

LOL @ air filter cleaner kits. Its only a degreaser solution, just use some degreaser like brake cleaner which works a treat.

Just clean as much dirt as possible at least its cleaner than before!

Basically take out the filter part and rinse it through (from the back) with soapy warm water. Sorted.

Brake cleaner is normal a degreaser ( varying strengths of it out there though)

Ive just bought a slightly used BMC, and Im going to clean it this afternoon, Ill let you all know how it goes!

Brake cleaner wont work very well, try it. Fairy liquid+warm water will be much better

i bought a bmc cleaning kit for like £10 and cleaned it at that time..

Fairy liquid, Radiator to dry. Then pipercross oil. All was well
