How to go about insuring a 172

  clio 1.4 petrol
Hey passed my test about 6 or months back and my cars due for renewal in about 6 months, where ill be getting my 1 years no claims bonus entitlement. Anyways I have a 1.4 mk2 ph1 just now and i am considering selling it and getting a 172 when its renewal time and changing insurance company. Im 18 at moment and i know 172 insurance is gonna be fecking large. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about getting best price? (go on parents name for a start?) or fleet insurance? there must be some 18 year olds with 172/182, Like ma m8 who had 182 for his first car when he was 17 =0.

theres a few threads about this if you do a search where people are split between going for it if you can afford it, and other people claiming your a r****d.

there are ways of doing it, but i wouldnt bother myself.

i went from a 1.4 16v alize, to my 172 and it cost me £200 more on insurance.

i was 21 when i got it though.

mmm... ye i would pay £2000 max for insurance basicaly cause iv been saving up and i work part time and earn £500 a month and that would come out at like 166 off of that per month, so dont think its that expensive for me at moment.

I think it will be over £3k. You should ask whoever gives the best quote if they give a discount for Pass Plus. If so, do it!

You would be lucky to get under £3k.

Don't bother, I waited till I was 21 to get a 172.

Your better off going for a 1.6 16v a saving the money, till you have a few years of driving under your belt.

  1.6 16v
to be honest mate i drive a 1.6 16v and i think that you should consider one of these as thay are a bit of fun and my insurance is only £650 fully comp at 18! (on his dads insurance thou). then again you will bet bored after a year lol! but then who doesnt! top speed of 124, thats what i got anyways! (private road ofcorse)! 0-60 10 seconds! feels like a bus lol! go for it test drive 1 today hahahaha!

Get in! just got a belter of a quote form diamond on my mums name with me named driver, seeing as she will be driving car just as much. £1175 pounds third party... now thats a quote and a half i reckon for a 172 at 18 with 1 years no claims and 1 years driving.

not really, i think thats a rubbish quote to be honest... seeing as its not actually you they're insuring on the car.

if your going to do it, get a proper quote in your name with no named drivers. This way your insurance is valid and you can build up your NCD. Imagine when your 21 and you want to get a proper performance car... you'll be rogered because you wont have any NCD of your own.

my being a name driver does mean my insurance is valid tho, and its both of us there insuring. Well be driving just as much as each other probably, although I do get wat ur saying with no claims
