Simple.. change the box for a 1.2 16v..

there is apparantly one going cheap after someone met anothe rlike minded driver in the opposite direction LOL..

Joe..

Call me stupid but isnt the only difference the final drive? Would that really affect it that much??

Cheers, Simon

The final drive would close up the gaps in the gears, in effect giving you a closer ratio gearbox. I wokred out the other day tho that the Mk1 172 gearbox is good for 150Mph+ so its pretty good for the Turbo engine. I looked at the ratios and found that the first 4 are close (not as close as the Mk2 gearbox) but 5th was built for intergalatic travel. With 205/45/16 tyres that I will get later on it will be good for 160Mph at 7000 revs. not that I would want to travel at that speed in a clio. Not sure if it can get to that speed even with Turbo power

Cheers,

Chun.

Hi Guys,

yes, the final drive IS the difference.
It would keep uoi spot on the power band and produce more torque at the wheels. (One of the problems of the 172 is that reno made second gear able to pull 100 kph.. (62mph) for magazine tests. you would need to snick it into 3rd earlier, but it would be quicker overall. That fact alone probably influenced the choice of final drive as the box ratios - hence boxes - are all the same.
