humming noise only at 68-72mph?

  sport 172 mk2
hi all, I have a humming noise comming from front of car, but only within the speeds of 68-72mph, and again at 80mph.

Don't think its engine related as i set the revs in a different gear and it doesn't do it, I even pushed in the clutch to lose the revs completely and it still hums.

I was thinking bearing as there is no vibration, but wouldn't I get it at lower speeds?

cheers

Sounds like wheel bearings if its road speed related rather than engine speed related.

The rear bearings, are a common problem and when worn, make a hell of a noise thats difficult to pin down when driving the car.

They are quite cheap to buy and relatively easy to replace.

Check the "guides" section of the board.

Might be a silly suggestion but could the humming maybe be your wipers ?

MIne make a noise but i need to be going just a tad faster ;)

Thought about wipers, but it does it when wipers are on and I would imagine that the noise would at least change a little during the arc of the wiper.

I'm thinking that it is bearing related, just thinking that the noise will start to be noticeable at lower speeds and then i can nail the sucker!!
