humming noise

Need a little bit of advice for this one. My valver has started to make a very loud humming noise when i reach 40mph and gets unbearable at 70+

The noise seems to go away when i go around corners . Could anyone list any obvious faults that could cause this to happen?? I was thinking maybe it could be the wheel bearings??

Definetly wheel bearings. Mine used to hum and noise went away when cornering, came striaght back when I straightened up. Took it to Halfords £80 per side I think. Toruble is it kept reoccuring. 10k miles later and it was doing it again. Went through 2 sets of Halfords bearings, then took it to Stop n Steer Roker (old Charlie Browns) and they put a 3rd set on, problem never reoccured. I accused Halfords of supplying rubbish bearings and they told me it was because of my alloys... yeah but after 10000 miles?!

Jack the car up and wiggle wheel, if you can its a sign of the bearing.

Read your PM mate, Ill reply soon, as Im shutting down now.

it doesnt sound like the noise is coming from any particular corner, i cant really tell because the noise is so loud now lol, one thing i did forget to mention is that their is a small vibration coming through the floor of the car aswell. What happens if a wheel bearing breaks in motion??

which ever way you turn that makes the noise louder it will be the opposite bearing thats faulty.EG-if you turn left then the car body rolls to the right so loads up the right hand side wheel bearings.if the noise gets louder then its the right hand side wheel bearings(jack it up and spin the wheels to hear if its a front or rear one).if the noise is that loud and there is a vibration then you should be able to tell which one it is straight away if you jack it up and check them(check for play and spin the wheels to check for bearing noise).if its that bad i wouldnt use the car, could be pretty dangerous if the bearing collaspes when your driving it.
